Venue Ideas

Hi ladies,

One of my dear friends just got engaged and is looking for unique places in the area - somewhere within an hour or so of Boston, or near Rhode Island would be ideal!

They loved the idea of the Boston Public Library, but it's way out of their budget. They love pretty gardens, old historic feel, and enough room for 175 guests. They also want to host the ceremony on site. It's also important to them to have awesome food, so they either want to be able to bring in their own caterer or have a venue with really great food.

Any suggestions? They're hoping to keep it to $110/person, venue/food/tables/chairs/linens/service included (whole wedding budget is around $30k).

I got married at the Double Tree Bedford Glen. Within her price range and hotel is chic if that woudl be okay with her.
  • We are getting married at the bourndale function facility in plymouth. It is a gorgous location. We are having 100 people but you can have up to 200. YOu can even have guests stay over they have houses and cottages right on the property...if you stay over they have a bon fire after the reception so more time to hang out with your friends and family and then breakfast is included the next morning. Something def to consider capefunctions.com
  • I am getting married at the Villa in East Bridgewater but they have another property the Saphire Estate in Sharon. Both are gorgeous and their food is amazing! My budget is the same as your friend's. Www.saphireeventgroup.com

    Hey there kellyeliz:
I, too am getting married at The Villa in EB! That place is gorgeous and so is their other place in Sharon. Super nervous though even with all the great reviews I've read online. Just haven't been able to see many great pics online and on their website that showcase their Villa property-inside and out. I have seen a few pics but they pretty much highlight the same areas. I guess real weddings can be difficult to get pics of.
I am getting married in April 2013. What about you?
Wondering if there are any Saphire Group/The Villa forums out there. That would be nice.

    Congrats!

Lord Thompson Manor is minutes from SW Rhode Island! Also, Old Sturbridge Village is very unique and about 1/2 hour from RI. Rustic though (it is a history museum) but beautiful...if she's interested in that - tons of beautiful gardens and has plenty of room for 175 and great food! Lord Thompson - again, great food and beautiful grounds but much more expensive than Sturbridge. Also, there is the Pink House in Woodstock,CT - I think they only do tent wedding though and 175 may be pushing it. GL!

I just got married at the villa on june 16th and i would not suggest having your wedding there. Tho the venue itself is beautiful, so many things went wrong! I had anight wedding and i had guests at 10:15 who had not ate yet! They were all over the place and didnt know what they were doing. I just had ameetong with them in which they said we were going to go over the tapes to see what went wrong. When we got there they did not have the tapes and said the tapes only last 2 weeks which was very convenient for them. My guests were STARVING and it really put a huge damper on my night and now I have to still deal with them. Also there are a lot of hidden things that they throw into their paper work that if you don't pay attention, end up costing an arm and a leg. They love to say "it's in your paperwork " but they should really tell you some of these things. My night was spent running around looking to get my guests fed. Everything from the time salad came out and on was a mess. If you can, go somewhere else. Especially if you really want a lot of dancing because their mess up with the food cut into the dancing at my wedding at least 45 minutes and we ended up having to pay out of pocket more to have more dance time even tho it was their fault. They have done NOTHING to make things better with us. Hope your day is great, congrats!!In Response to Re: Venue Ideas:

Do not get married at the villa!! Tho they are beautiful... My guests at 10:15 at night were just getting their food and the villa has done nothing to make things right besides lie and be extremely sneaky and shady. They paint a picture of the perfect service but it's not. Also be very careful of hidden costs that they have that they sneak into the contract. If you do use them read everything extremely carefully. Also, make sure you tell them a smaller number of guests than what you think you'll have because whatever number you tell them ends up being your minimum spending. So if you tell them 120 and you have100... You don't get that money back for the extra 20 guests. They make you put it towards food only. Congrats and goodluck!!
