Registry Site- has anyone used?

We have been living together for years and as much as we love receiving gifts from our friends and relatives, all we really need is just money since we recently bought a condo together and have a ton of fixing up to do!!!   So I was thinking this would be a good registry idea?  Anybody use it?

Is it ok to add things like paint, furniture, hardware, etc- things that are big ticket items but you just ask for a set amount to contribute- like 50.00 towards our new furniture?  That is what I really want.  I found this website (www.uponourstar.com">www.uponourstar.com) where you can ask things like this, really anything at all, but they just contribute money to things that we really need, but they feel like they are buying a gift.  thoughts?

I really can't believe you even have to ask. This is tacky and very greedy, especially in this economy. If your guests want to give you money then they will, to outright ask for money is really tacky.

Most of our guests gave us money. Just do a small registry and spread by word of mouth that you are saving up for condo repairs.

Also remember if you don't have a traditional registry, you won't be able to have a bridal shower. Since the whole purpose of a bridal shower is to shower the bride with gifts (not dollar bills).

I'm gonna call this out as a vendor post or just a shady post...I have never seen a post outlined the way this post is,meaning it has a border around it. And it sounds like an advertisement...tacky one at that.

    #1- vendor much?
#2- on the very slim offchance that you're not, that is insanely tacky.  You can spread word of mouth through your BMs, MOH and mom that you're really into condo repairs, but some people are very traditional and want to take things off a registry.  You can do a small one at BBB or something, and then spread word of mouth, "hey, so and so are working on their place, if you're generous enough to give them a gift, a home depot card would really be great, but ANYTHING is appreciated!"
From past experience, telling people you want money only is grossly tacky. I was in a wedding where the bride and groom told us in the bridal party TO OUR FACES that the washer and dryer we were getting them wasn't good enough, and they just wanted the cash to do with what they wanted for their home.  They got the cash.  And for a wedding gift, I got them a very small home depot gift card.  That's it.  Suffice to say, their tackiness outweighed my generosity.
