Student photographer

Has anyone thought to use a student or amature to photograph their wedding, one who is willing to do it cheap or free, giving you only a disk of pics, in exchange to use the pics in their portfolio?  I think they call it TFCD (trade for cd).

I don't know of anywhere where you can find someone to do it for free... But I found my photographers though New England School of Photography (NESOP).  They have a program where you submit your info (date, style your looking for etc.)  And then students and alumni contact you and send you their portfolio.  You can def find good deals there, without sacrificing quality.

The photographer I chose was Dodge Imagery.  Very reasonable priced and great quality of work. GL!

Yes, i would deff. consider armature photographer. We used William Condon for all our yearly pictures and engagement pictrues. He also did my aunt's wedding last year. His prices are really good, and you get a good work from him. check him out

That seems like a good way to save money, but I would be worried about the quality of work, and how professional they would be although the school of photography seems like a really good idea, so I will look into that.

I have two nieces who do this. They are both professional gifted photographers. If they were not in my wedding. they would be photographing it. The only charge for them is transportation if a far distance and if you want them to touch up the pictures after the fact.

I also went the NESOP route and am really looking forward to having Nicholas take our pictures.  If you put a request in, you will get lots of responses and they will send you links to their portfolios / blogs etc.

After looking at a lot of photographers...I found almost all the of the photographers I really liked were graduates of AIB (Art institute of Boston)...I have visited the school in the past and know they have a very strong program. So I would recommend checking there.

My photographer is a AIB grad and a prof at NESOP.
  • Thanks Erica, great idea. I just sent NESOP an email.
