Help! Publick House wedding.

We are getting married at the Publick House Garden tent in Sturbridge, MA on 9/28/2013. We live in Alaska so we have actually never even got to see the venue. Due to limited dates we had to put down our deposit site unseen. Has anyone gotten married here or visited? Any advice? We are also looking for a DJ, Photographer, florist, makeup, etc. We will be making one trip to Mass over Christmas but will not be back in Mass until a few days before the wedding so any advice really helps out a lot! Thank you!!

Re: Help! Publick House wedding.

  • I was in a wedding at the Publick House. It is a very nice venue. The wedding was inside and not in a tent but they did have really nice grounds too. They generally have a great reputation in the area anyway.
The couple used the same photographer I hired: Portrait New England. They are a fantastic team to work with and they are reasonably priced too. I didn't have a DJ but the other couple used Sound Force Unlimited and he was awesome. I'm not sure who the bride had for makeup and a florist but I used Beautiful Faces for makeup and I did my own flowers. I used Crown Bakery in Worcester for the cake and Dave from Media Waves for videography.
Good luck planning across the country! Send me a PM if you have any specific questions.
  • Hi there and congrats! I'm a Boston bride living abroad so can definitely give some suggestions. I'm lucky that I am having a long engagement and got more than one trip to Boston before the wedding. What has helped me quite alot are asking family and friends in the area for vendor recommendations. Since I wouldn't always be able to check multiple options due to time constraints when I was in town, it was helpful to be able to narrow most things down to one meeting per vendor type. Good luck!!

<div>I'm not a fan of the Publick House but it's a typical wedding venue.  There are several other locations nearby that I would choose over this location but that's me.  Sorry, just being honest.</div><div>
</div><div>As for other vendors...the Publick House SHOULD have a preferred vendor list for you...other locations do this and they should too.  As for DJs, Champagne Toast is good, photographers: Ed Diaz, Tom Neil to just name a couple...florist-The Flowering Vine and Holmes Shusas...again, just a couple to start with.  As for makeup - there is a place right down on Route 20 (can't remember her name) but I hear great things.  Good luck!</div>
  • I'm getting married one town over, in Spencer. From our work together so far, I would definitely recommend my photographer, Sue Lynch. She has a photjournalistic style which is what I wanted; I'm not really into special effects. For flowers we are using Mugford's in nearby Westborough. They are great and reasonably priced. Good luck!
  • I also recomend Mugford! My sister used them and the flowers were beautiful.
  • Please contact Allison with Allison Niles photography! She does such an amazing job and is such a wonderful person! Her is 1 508 3178087. I've looked a lot of photos and she is just quite simply the best. Good luck!!
