The State Room- Boston

Hey brides of past, present, and future,
My fiance and I are currently planning our wedding with the State Room.  And I am wondering if there is anyone out there who would like to share some experiences with us.
One thing in particular that I am wondering is:  Did you use leather in house lounge furniture during your event in the space (reception or cocktail) and was it included in the venue fee?  I have heard that there are brides who have experienced the state room actually trying to charge a fee for the furniture that they already have on site in the harborside and cityside rooms.

Any experience with this?
Or other helpful hints would be SO appreciated!

Re: The State Room- Boston

  • We looked there and they charge for EVERYTHING separately.  Not to mention they are known for having the worst food.  It's one thing to pay a premium but when you don't get premium serious or food -Be cautious.
  • I've had two friends who were married there and they loooved it.  And I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere.

I don't know about the fees, but I do think it was pricey
  • One of my friends had her wedding there.  It was a beautiful wedding, but I almost passed out when I heard how much the reception there was.  They charged her to use the furniture above the grand ballroom for the cocktail hour.  People needed to sit, so she paid for it.

The food up until the entree was amazing.  That entree we had (the roasted chicken with potatoes and carrots) was the single worst entree I've ever had at a wedding.  It was dry, flavor less, etc.  It was like the scene in Christmas Vacation when Clark cuts into the turkey and steam shoots out. Horrible.  The apps and cocktail hour food were unbelievable though, so I was glad I filled up on those.  Also, they got her cake wrong. Wrong color/flavor/design. For a $1500 cake, they had best get it right!!!
  • I'm getting married at the State Room too! And, yes, what I've found is you need to be very careful about costs and definitely pay attention to the new and updated contracts they give you. I've found that they will "forget" to give me discounts or agreed upon costs that were in my original contract.

We are getting the furniture "for free" but we negotiated that before we signed our initial contract. They said they would "give" that to us, but when it comes down to it, I think that furniture is always there. I doubt they remove it for brides who haven't paid for it because I've never seen it not in the room.

    Good luck! When's the wedding?

Surprised at these reviews about the food.  My friend was married there 2 years ago.  I thought all the food was really good.  I remember cocktail hour being great, and I think I had filet for dinner.  Their cake was made by the State Room and it was one of the best cakes I've had.

No idea about the value, but I did really like the food.
