DIY Albums?

Has anyone heard of a website called www.somersetalbums.com ?
they are a DIY album site that can do professional looking albums for half the regular price!!
I just recently started pricing photography and got the shock of my life!
Has anyone done their own? If so, how did it turn out?

Over the past few weeks there have been a few posts about DIY wedding albums. I do remember the name somerset coming up in the discussions.

I will be diying my own album but haven't looked in to it yet. If you search for diy wedding albums you might be able to find the old threads.

We have used this website to order our wedding album:

They charged much less than our photographer and produced as far as I can tell more or less the same quality regarding design and material. We are very happy with our album anyway.

Are photographers possibly using the fact that they have a foot in the door to charge a significant premium on their album prices?

they have to be, how on earth could they cost 500/600 dollars!! unless they are gold-plated....
i think its nuts, considering you will only take it out a few times over the years....

Besides the nice quality that the photog books will be in, a lot of the costs comes from the actual hours spect designing the books.

Make sure to remember how long the it can possibly take to design it and get it just right.

I might be making my own album as well.  Right now I'm looking at mypublisher.com.  I made an album for my parents through mpix and I thought it came out just okay.  My photographer charges $2000-$2500 for an album and we just don't want to spend the money on it right now.
