April or October 2013 venues on North Shore

I recently got engaged and am looking for a budget venue and church on the North Shore.  My extended family all lives up there (including father's family) and I would LOVE to find a space that will work for under $10k budget.  We are thinking 100-150 guests which looks tough, based oin what I've seen so far.

I'm also amenable to South Shore...

Thanks :)

I'm not sure if you can afford it, but Endicott college has beautiful spots there! Misslewood is gorgeous and literally right on the water!

The Gloucester VFW.  I've only seen pictures, but it is on the water and really looks nothing like a VFW.

Try the Bayside of Nahant, Oceanview of Nahant, and the Elks Club at Bass Rocks (it's in Gloucester). They are all  reasonably priced.

I meant Elks Club... not VFW.

Thanks all!  I've seen a number of these online and it's good to know all you Knotties agree with reviews :)  Does anyone have an y suggestions on non-denominational churches near Gloucester?

Hoping to take a look at The Elks more closely...

Thanks Sheila!  Believe it or not my sister actually went to Endicott, so maybe she can get an alumni discount ;)  (Although I doubt it...)  It's a beautiful campus

I think the Andover Country Club is also supposed to be very reasonable.

I got married this April in the North Shore and I loved being an April bride! I found it to be a lot cheaper and I didn't have to compete for vendors :)

I don't have much for suggestions for a venue except to look into restaurants (they're usually cheaper than banquet halls). Also, the Essex room in Ispwich might be in your budget. Danversport yacht club also might be affordable too, they have a lot of packages so it may work. Endicott College is wicked expensive and won't work with budgets, but is very pretty.

April may be your better bet, since October has foliage AND Salem's Halloween craziness.

I can tell you Elks @ Bass Rocks is rather pricey, as well as Danversport too.

The Holiday Inn In Peabody was just renovated, is gorgeous, and EXTREMELY affordable!

I was going to go there, but moved my ceremony to the Methuen Memorial Music Hall.   Now I'm at the Holiday Inn Tewksbury/Andover.

Holiday Inn Tewksbury is amazingly priced.  I am having 1 hour open bar, plus TONS of extras, all for well under $11k.

How "north shore" are you trying to stay?

Try a tented wedding! There are some nice looking places like Moraine Farm in Beverly. Also see if you can use Rose Park in Beverly

I'm getting married at the Elks at Bass Rocks next summer. Considering it is August and peak wedding season I found them to be very reasonable. My dad is a member there so we are getting even more of a discount but it's only costing us $1,000 to rent the room and that includes the tables and chairs!! I don't know how much it will matter in the fall or spring but for us getting married on a Friday as opposed to a Saturday saved us a good amount of money. The food is where it gets the most expensive......although it's still not that bad. I was quoted with 3 meal options (prime rib, chicken picatta & veggie lasagna) and they also included three vendor meals in the price for a total of a little over $8,000. The caterers provide the silverware, plates, glasses and tablecloths. Oh yeah the price of the caterer also included the passed hors d voeurs for and hour and a coffee and tea station.

So granted I know we would be at different times of the year but for my wedding in the middle of peak wedding season at the Elks I'm spending just over $9,000. Sorry for the long post......I hope this helps. Good luck! :)

As for the North Shore options...I'm not looking to go too far north, say NH.  But somewhere near Gloucester, Peabody, Salem, Ipswich and the like.  I'm also looking into some places on the South Shore, as that's where I'm living now (Quincy)

I've taken a peek at the Tirrell room and it does look nice on the website.  I'm just wondering ifi it's too close to home.

Thanks for all the suggestions, felllow Knotties :)

Thanks MustangAlly :)  I was thinking the same thing when I saw on the Elks website that the rental fee was around $1,000 to $1500.  Do you HAVE to use their suggested caterers, or can you bring outside people in?  I'm a major foodie and I would LOVE the food to be tasty.  I actually just went to a wedding this weekend in NH and they had a choice of salmon and prime rib (so not a fan of the rib).  But then again I also understand why some places only allow you choices of set items

You can bring outside people in......they just won't back them like they will their preferred vendors. My photog and DJ both were not on their list and I just mentioned to them who I wanted to use and they said it was fine!

April is definitely a better bet! Although if you are thinking of having an outdoor wedding it will be cold! I've looked into some videographers and photographers and they always are eager to jump at an April wedding because it's kind of in the off season. You might be able to get some better deals as well.
