good knives!  I LOVE our new knives...I would highly suggest registering for a few individual knives (chef's, paring, bread) instead of a whole set.  I think  its more likely that people will buy them, and you really don't need a whole block.

Also, we really researched and didn't register for any non-stick, only cast iron and "green pans" one was green pan brand and one was scanpan.  They work really well and after we researched it we thought it was best for our health.

Thing we could live without--we registered for a lot of serving peices and I am having trouble storing them all.  I didn't realize it and after the shower we had 3 pitchers...that we had registered for!

Love our All-Clad cookware, KitchenAid Mixer and Wusthof knives.  But, with the knives. I registered for a whole block of them.  All I really needed was a good chef's knife.

Also, I got tons of vases, which I don't really need.  While they are pretty, how many expensive vases are necessary?  We kept one, and I returned the rest.  I probably got $300 for the vases which I can use for something else that needed when we move into our house.

<div>This. We registered for platters and cake stands and we do use them when we entertain, but storing them the other 362 days of the year is kind of annoying in our little half-house. </div><div>
</div><div>We received (which we are very glad we registered for) and frequently use a Keurig single cup coffee maker, a hot air popcorn popper, nice sheets, iron and ironing board, Kitchen Aid mixer, rice cooker (we make a lot of brown rice and quinoa), a seafood steamer, and our luggage. </div>

I'd be sparing on the decorative items (vases, frames) in favor of quality practical items (high thread count bedding, good, fluffy towels, nice pillows, etc.).  I can vouch for the Keurig coffee maker; it wasn't a wedding gift, but I use ours every day-- it's awesome for a household of two.  We also have a full size grind-and-brew that we DID register for, but it only comes out when we have company coming over.  I also love my KitchenAid stand mixer, and I never would have bought myself one.

I agree with PP's on serving pieces.  Though the pieces we have are beautiful and I use them every chance I get, the reality is it's just not that much. And they do take up a lot of cabinet space (often because they're large or awkwardly shaped).  These are things that I never would have bought for myself, though, so I'm glad to have them.  I'd just be judicious in how many pieces you include on the registry. Don't forget good cutting boards, including one with a moat for meat juices.  We also went a little over the top in the glassware department.  I swear, we have every kind of glass imaginable, especially when ti comes to wine and beer.  We could have scaled back there a little.  God knows I love red wine, but whether or not we really needed both burgundy and bordeaux glasses is questionable at best!

I LOVE my Kitchenaid mixer.  I also love our coffeemaker, digital camcorder and wine glasses.

I actually wish we had registered for a nice vase... we didn't and I can't justify spending the $$'s now.

I would not register for picture frames, we didn't and received more than enough wedding type frames anyway.

Great thread!  I can't wait to hear more responses.

I just had my shower this weekend (yay!) and it is funny, the gift I'm most excited about is some *beautiful* candle sticks from C&B.  I know I would never have bought them for myself and they are SO pretty, I'm so excited to put them in my dining room.  They make me happy just looking at them.  Not practical, but fun!

I put a lot of practical stuff on my registry, like towels, bathmats, cutting boards, kitchen utensils, etc.  But no one bought any of those.  Oh well!

I probably shouldn't even be answering because, well, we have yet to UNPACK most of our registry gifts, BUT that being said, I have to say one of my friends got me a Kitchen-Aid HAND mixer (not the big stand one, but a little hand-held one), and I LOVE IT!!!  I never thought I'd be raving about a hand-mixer, but it really has a nice design.  I've already used it a few times to whip up pancake/waffle batter and it hasn't splattered a single drop!  Surprised  My old one was crappy compared to this one.  I picked it out because it was recommended by Cook's Illustrated Magazine, which is notorious for their awesome reviews of kitchen gagets.

Mostly, have fun and just pick out anything you want.  You can always exchange later.
