We were walking to the carousel in our dresses and drawing quite a bit of attention. People were calling out about how beautiful we looked, congratulating us, and asking lots of questions about whether it was a double wedding and such. They asked if we were married yet, and then when I called out that we weren't they told us to run!! About the gazillionth time someone yelled, "Where are the grooms?" A replied, "dead." (not very bride-like, which made it funny) When we were posing by the pier for pics the photographer was calling out where she wanted us to look. Then we heard a male voice, "Hey, why don't you look over here for the next one!" It was one of our guests!!! They had decided to spend the day walking around the city. At first I thought all was lost, because his wife was the guest we had chosen to read the announcement to the guests. But they assumed we had ALREADY gotten married. So A. continued the lie. She told her that we had gotten married with just family there earlier, and that the party would be our reception. This ingenious lie made it so that she was truly surprised when she read the announcement.Lots of tourists watched the ceremony, which was really cool. When we finished there was tremendous applause. One woman was waiting to get into a restaurant and watched the entire thing from start to finish. Then she raced into the restaurant, asked for a card, and wrote us a note about how she can't legally get married yet, but that seeing our wedding was the highlight of her trip to Boston. The staff at the restaurant delivered the note with a bottle of very nice champagne while we were still doing a receiving line of sorts outside. We turned and acknowledged and thanked the crowd that had gathered and the woman came over and hugged us both.On the other end, there were hecklers. Luckily a few of our guests encouraged them successfully to move along.
