After party in Beacon Hill?

Hello Boston Knotties! I'm getting married at the Holiday Inn at Beacon Hill in June, and FI and I have been tossing around the idea of having a very informal after party at a near by bar. The reception is scheduled until 10, so we thought it could be fun to walk to somewhere close--I just want to keep it simple though, and the only bar I know nearby is Harp, and that's a 9 minute walk away. Do you think this is too far? There seem to be a couple of dive bars on Cambridge Street that could work as well--anyone ever tried Harvard Gardens or the Red Hat Cafe? I'd like to avoid the Liberty Hotel--I love the decor but the drinks are ridiculously expensive and not really what we'd like to end our night with!

Thanks ladies!

Beacon Hill Pub!!! It's cash only but that place is the BEST.

I like Kinsale, up the street a couple blocks.

I've never been, but the Hill Tavern across the street from the hotel seems to have decent reviews.
Yay! Finally able to update my signature :)

Harvard Gardens is nice and close and would be a good spot for an after party.  I've only been a couple times for drinks, but My MGH friends live there :).

BH Pub is good too, but I think it would get a little crowded.

thanks girls! I think FI and I will plan a mini pub-crawl of our own to check out a few places in person--thanks so much for your help!

I love the Hill Tavern, but I usually go for dinner not just drinks. Harvard Gardens is a little nicer, could be crowded because the bar area is blocked off, but very nice. They are both super close.

I've been to the Red Hat a bunch of times but its been a few years. I believe the bar is downstairs (if I remember correctly). Its on the smaller side but pretty workable!

The last time I was at the Red Hat there was a cockroach in the bathroom.  Gross!  I like casual spots, but I think that's TOO casual for after a wedding.  The floors can be sticky :-(

How as about the Sevens on Charles St.?  I also love 75 Chestnut, but the bar is very small.

I would also vote Kinsale or Hill Tavern.  Check the music schedule at Kinsale and see what is on before you decide.  Harvard Gardens is really loud, and I feel like it is trying too hard, but that may be just me.  (As an aside, that place has apparently been there for years. My grandparents say they used to go there in the 1950s.  I think it has changed.)

Does the Holiday Inn have a lobby bar?  We went to the lobby bar at the hotel where we held our reception and we had the place rocking 'til 3 AM.  It was perfect for an afterparty and didn't require any coordination or logistics.
