Homebrew Beer Favors

I've been looking around some of the venues in the central MA area, and a lot of them state you can't bring in outside alcohol to the reception. My fiance and I are hoping to do homebrew beer as our wedding favors - and that counts as outside alcohol. Any legal advice and/or venue suggestions that would allow us to do this?  Thanks!

Re: Homebrew Beer Favors

  • I don't have any legal advice on this.  But, I would just ask the venues.  They may make an exception for a favor, as long as you promise to package it in such a way that no one will open it at the reception, or specifically include a note saying not to open it at the reception.
  • What a great idea! I have seen it done with wine bottle with personalized labels, sometimes the venue just puts them on a "favor" table with a note to please take one when you leave.
  • I know the Commons in Topsfield lets you bring your own alcohol, since Topsfield is a dry town. IMO it is cheaper to bring your own alcohol anyways, so that might be a plus. But not sure if that's something you wanted to look into or if you just wanted to do beer favors and have the vendor serve their alcohol for the reception. :)

  • My fiance brews his own beer as well and is considering doing this!  We have looked at Cyprian Keyes (Boylston), Chocksett Inn (Sterling), Pleasant Valley Country Club (Sutton) and Sterling National Country Club, while all of their information says they do not allow outside alcohol they all said that it is acceptable as a favor.  A couple of places had rules as to when it could be displayed and they all said that it had to be packaged so that people weren't encouraged to open it while at the facility.
