NWR: Camera recs

For Christmas I am asking for a new camera, so I was wondering if anyone has advice for choosing a camera, or if you have one that you love.

I am looking for something that will take good pictures with a zoom and in low light, and many of my pictures are of animals and kids so blur is always a problem. Also, red eyes, but mostly blue eyes from pets are always a problem for me when using a flash. Lastly, I don't want something too big that it's hard to carry or stick in a tote or handbag.

Thanks in advance!

I love my Sony cyber-shot.  It has a 15x zoom, smile shutter, 1/14 shutter speed...great for getting those shots that are always missed!!!

I have 2 cameras.  One is a Nikon Coolpix.  I especially like that it is small (I carry it with me pretty much everywhere I go).  Mine is a few years old, but I think the newer ones are even nicer/thinner.  I don't love the zoom, but I think for more money you can get more zoom.

My other one is a Kodak that my FMIL gave me when she got a new camera.  It has an awesome zoom (I think 10X optical, plus digital zoom), and it has a quick shutter speed which results in fewer blurry shots.  The only thing I don't like about it is the size--I find it a bit big to carry around for everyday, although it's not so huge or fragile I can't throw it in a backpack or tote bag.

I think cameras are getting nicer though, so I'd probably just go to the store & try some out or read the reviews on amazon.
Yay! Finally able to update my signature :)
