Second Guessing Videographer Choice

When we started wedding planning, my fiance and I didn't plan on booking a videographer. After hearing that the one regret many brides have is not hiring a videographer, I insisted on booking a budget friendly videographer. We said we didn't want the whole day capture on video anyway, just the main stuff like ceremony, first dance, speeches, etc. We decided to book someone pretty new to the industry since he fit our budget.

I received 2 video samples today, and I can't say I am excited about his work. It's not terrible, but you definitely get what you pay for. Now I am bummed and am wondering if it is good enough to have footage of the day- or should I go and break the bank and book another vendor.

Anyone else have this issue?

We were pretty much of the opinion that we either wanted a really amazing video or none at all.  I was also very unimpressed by the budget videographers - we wanted more than just plain coverage.  We decided to hire a very expensive cinematographer and I don't regret our choice for a second - it's such a treasure to us, and money VERY well spent for us.

I did the same thing as you, I tried to look for budget videographers and when I saw the reels it just didn't seem to be worth it.  We decided in the end to go with Video Visions Forever out of Bridgewater and I'm really happy with our decision.  It was more money that I thought I'd spend on video in the beginning but I really feel like it's an investment for the future.

We were searching for videographers too and I was *shocked* by how poor the quality of the samples were for people who still charged $1K!  But the video is really important to FI, so we also ended up spending more money on it than I was hoping.  I kind of feel like if you are spending the money, either get someone really good or if not, just have a friend film it.  Spending money for a mediocre video just doesn't seem worth it.  Good luck!

We really splurged as well and I don't regret it all! I wanted something that we would love and enjoy watching over the years, not something that would make us cringe. Plus I love my parents old video and I wanted our future kids to have that too.

I am with you. I didn't initially want video and then searched for budget videographers. We ended up deciding to go a little more "all out" on it... and spend right around $2,000 to hire our videographers. They are new to the industry but their sample was fantastic! They are GREAT! http://michaelandtriciafilms.com/

Michael and Tricia were fantastic when we met with them and their samples are really nice!

Try Eagle Productions.  Rob is a friend of mine and he has been in the business for years.  He was very unobtrusive on the day of but captured everything we wanted.  Also has a variety of packages for different budgets... I don't know for sure but I think 1000 is pretty much the minimum in Boston.
