Affordable wedding cakes

Does anyone have any recommendations for affordable wedding cakes?  My wedding is going to be in Revere so anywhere around Boston and north shore will be fine.

I am open to getting a cake through a bakery, or through an individual.

Thanks!

I have heard that D'Amici's Bakery in Lynn has great cakes. My FI's cousin got her wedding cake from there and they get all the birthday cakes from there too.

Cakes are fairly expensive. Other ways to save money depend on whether you will serve the cake plated to every guest, if not, then you can order less. We ordered enough cake for 100 people because we had it served buffet style (there was another dessert), and we had 150 guests, with plenty of leftovers. And the venue often cut smaller pieces that the bakery uses to estimate for size.

Other options are to have a fake cake and serve from sheet cake- And some people do cupcakes instead to save money.

we  got ours (rum sheet cake) from Royal Pastry in Lexington.

We went with Amanda Oakleaf and her cakes were PHENOMENAL and reasonably priced too. I loved my wedding cake, we had red velvet and carrot cake as our two options.

    Good luck.

Our hall recommended them, but I looked at their cakes on their website and I don't really like the style.  They look really outdated (they use those plastic columns between layers, lace, etc...).  Maybe I will call them to see if they do other styles.

I might just make a cupcake tree with a small 6 or 8 in cake topper.  I make cakes which is why I don't want to spend a lot, but I just don't want to be stressing out over the cake.  Cupcakes are much easier so I might just go with that and do it myself.

    Thanks for the recommendations ladies!

If you decide to make your own cake/cupcakes, make sure that your venue will let you bring them in. A lot of venues don't let you bring in homemade food due to liability/insurance issues.

I would definitely try Tripoli's in Lawrence, MA. We got our cake there and it was SO good. We also tried Johnny Cakes, which is based in North Andover, but the cake wasn't as good and for no frills (and not including the delivery fee) it was over double the price of Tripoli's.

We got a yellow cake with raspberry filling and buttercream frosting...we had a small display cake and then a large sheet cake to be cut up in the kitchen and it worked out perfectly -- delicious and very affordable. Good luck.
