Alterations

Hi everyone,

My dress is in!!  I went and tried it on.  The next step is my alterations.  I just need a hem and a bustle.  My dress is quite detailed...a layer of satin, layer of lace and then a layer of tulle.  The bridal shop said a hem is about $125 and creating the bustle is an additional $120.

I wasnt surprised at the hem price, but the price of the bustle I found a little much.

Is $120 for a bustle too much?

What kind of bustle are you getting?  The shops I talked to charged per point, about $20.  So for the 4 pt bustle I was thinking of it was going to be $80.  They were going to do a 3 pt under bustle for the lining (to hold it up  securely) and then a 1 pt over bustle for the top layer.  This is a very simple bustle, most people get more points, so I can see it costing $120 (even though I do think it is expensive!).

Make sure, whatever you end up paying, that they are not doing a single point bustle on either layer. I don't care what that dress is made out of. One single point to hold all that weight just won't cut it, and the last thing you want to do on your big day is hunt down safety pins and ruin your dress just so you can dance.
