Nonprofit venue?

Hi everyone, I'd really like at least some of the money we're spending to go to a 501c3 nonprofit. Has anyone found a nonprofit space that would accomodate 175 folks? We're also trying to keep costs down - it's just a wedding, right? Ha. That being said, I want the funds we DO spend to support a good cause.

Location can be MA, CT, RI or NH.

Thanks!

    Hi there,

So the three venues that immediately came to mind for me were:

    1)  The Epicenter - This is run by Artists for Humanity, whose mission is to provide the underserved youth with employment in the arts.  It's a really great cause, and if I remember correctly, about $5000 to rent the space.  We really considered this, but thought it would be too much work to do ourselves (you really essentially are starting with a blank easle).  I think if you have a lot of time or a good wedding planner, it could be pretty cost saving.

    2)  The Cyclorama - This is run by Boston Center for the Arts, which is also a non-profit.  I don't really know much about the rental costs or anything else because we didn't really look into this very far.

    3)  The Boston Public Library - Obviously a great cause and a very beautiful location, but unfortunately pretty expensive...

I'm sure there are others, but that's all I could think of.  Hope that helps!

    Spring Step in Medford!

The space is really awesome and has such a different feel. They run dance and music programs for all ages and it's such a great facility.

The only one I saw was the Artists for Humanity, it was very hip/modern an industrial type space. The problem we had was the location and possibly parking for guests.

I might also add, that my florist gives half of her profits to charity (depending on how much you spend you can choose the charity).  Blooms of Hope http://www.bloomsofhopefloral.com/

Is the Contemporary Art Museum non-profit? That place is amazing, although the rental fee is not cheap.

isn't there someplace in Salem too? I can't remember...

Thanks to all, these are great ideas! I did run into a few of them during my search. It's odd, many of them are more expensive than the for-profit spaces! But I'll keep my mind open. Finding other vendors that donate (like florists) is also a great idea. I also just ran into the I Do Foundation - idofoundation.org - good stuff there! I had friends who got married at the museum of science, and I would totally steal the idea if it hadn't just happened a year ago.

FYI, the epicenter looks great, but a friend who planned a gala with them found them hard to work with. In case anyone else is looking at them - it's great space, but seems to require a lot of leg work!
