Photographer Pricing

Hi All,
One of our big challenges has been knowing what is a normal or good price.

Photographers is one of those areas where we have no idea how much it should cost. Would you mind sharing how much you paid it could be a range and what you got for that price? Thank you so much!

Re: Photographer Pricing

  • It seems like there's a really big range here.  When we started pricing them out, we got quotes from $1500 to $5000.

Our photographer is going to be $2400.  It's one photographer, engagment session, 8-9 hours of coverage, an upgraded book, and all the rights to the pictures (should be about 500 of them on a DVD).

A lot of it has to come down to style too.  We had two photographer offer almost exactly the same thing but they had two styles.  We chose the person who was $500 more because we liked her photographs better.

    Good luck!
  • What type of style are you going with? We want someone to do more photojournalism/documentary style with your usual portraits as well...not sure if that costs more for some reason.
  • I definitely recommend our photographer.  I think she's awesome, but like the other poster said, it does come down to what YOU like.

  • we paid $1,200 for our photographer.

engagement session (includes CD with rights to print)
    6 hours of coverage
    1 photographer
CD with rights to print (we got 660 pics)
    Online gallery
    1 album
  • My package is similar to Bostongrl's, but with seven hours of coverage. FYI, our photographer is Sue Lynch, and she does photojournalism style. Our wedding isn't until next year, but from our dealings with her so far I would highly recommend her.
  • edited October 2012
Hmm, I'm feeling like I got hosed now.  lol.  We paid either $2100 or $2400, I can't remember exactly now.  We got 6 hours, a cd with the edited photos (around 500), and all the rights.  No engagement session or album.
  • We LOVE our photographers.  One of our favorite things is the create a package to meet your needs. Bill and Naome are great!

    Our package $1500
2 photographers, engagement session 6 prints from the engagement session (plus photo rights) 8 hours of pictures all the rights and images and an album.

def check out portrait new england.  they are having an awesome promotion right now.  Any one new gets entered into a change for their entire package free.  They just did one drawing and are continuting through april.

  • I'll second Portrait New England. I got 8 hours and no album though. They are really reasonable for what they offer and I LOVE my wedding pictures.
  • We got unlimited coverage - full rights to over 2000 images on disc - an engagement session and a true professional that took stunning pictures for 2k.  You've got to check out Berryphotos, they're just phenominal.  Their website is:

  • I think normal range we got was 2500-7000.  Good pricing is if the quality matches the price.  We are paying 3600 for 8 hours coverage, two photographers, and an engagement session.  The photos are our number one budget priority and we had a definite look that we wanted.
  • A budget photographer, will be anywhere from $1,500 (starting out) to $2,000. Mid-level photographers will average around $3,000 and very well established and popular photographers can run up to and over $5,000.

Some photographers include lots of stuff, others will charge you extra. Talk to any photographers you are looking into about exactly what the price includes:
    • Second photographer
    • CD of High-res images
    • Bridal and/or Engagement shots
    • Number of hours included
    • Editing of photos (personally I wouldn't want 500-2,000 photos, I'd want the photographer to edit them down to the very best photos... I think my CD had less than 200 images.)

  • we paid $2,500 for john loconte which included an album. he is truly the best out there and i would highly recommend meeting with him, i believe his package still starts at $1,500 or so

  • I researched over 50 photographers and met with 17.
Prices start at about $1500 and I ran into people that would have charged us $10,000+ for what we wanted.  It is all about the look and style that you want and how well you mesh with them personally.  Also album quality and price varies widely.  If the album is something that is important to you, make sure you see examples and do research on the printing company (there are well over a dozen).  Not getting an album should save you tons.
  • Mimmer04--after all that research who did you end up with and roughly how much did you pay for your package?

  • We were going to go with John Lo too!

But then I went to a wedding expo and won 5 hours of free photography and that was that! I have been extremely picky about the photography, given that I have a background in photography myself.

We are going with Doros Photography in Shrewsbury- they are amazing! We def could not have afforded them without the 5 free hours, but you do get what you pay for.  They are very professional, take GREAT shots, and have gorgeous albums.  I can't wait to have them at our wedding!! Their prices are typically 3,000-7,000 for coverage, an album, engagement session, and then you can buy your DVD separately.  Since we won the prize at the expo, we are getting a $3500 package for about $1500 and couldn't be happier :)
  • The only thing you have after the wedding is over is your pictures. Don't skimp!
I also agree with the bride who said thousands of pictures unedited are of no use. Look for the photographer who is giving you edited and retouched images. There should only be between 200 and 500 of those. Quality not quantity.

Try looking at Paul s. Robinson Photography

He photographs for Bride and Groom Magazine and The Original Wedding Expo

His work is fantastic and he has a wide variety of packages to fit any package.
He also gives a 10% discount to the military, fire, police.

Really nice guy..thnks outside the box for some great photographs

  • Contact genevieve bergeron photography. she was right in the middle pricing and her work is awesome. She comes with a second shooter as well. her packages were reasonable and she gets to know you as a couple. It also included your engagement session and all sorts of special stuff. I tell everyone about her.
  • We are paying $5200 for a photographer + assistant, 8 hours of coverage, all images on a CD, and 1 album. I agree with PPs that this is something you shouldn't skimp on. Look through local photo blogs to see what kind of style you are drawn to. Also, book early if possible. This was the first vendor we booked after the venue. He had some Saturdays booked 2 years out. Good luck!

  • Check out: http://lindseycamilli.com / lindseycamilli@gmail.com - She is our photographer and had by far the best value for our $$$
  • We got an amazing package from Makayla Jade Creatives (http://www.makaylajadecreatives.com/) we ended up spending around $5000 for the photo package we choose, but we spent the extra money because we are getting ALL of the digital negatives from our wedding day. And frankly, you can't put a price on that!

The package we chose had a lot of other adds on it. Its really all about what YOU want and how much you can afford.
  • We paid $4500 for ours. I realize its a little bit more than most but they were HIGHLY recommended to us from my cousin and even though the wedding is all said and done, its what we have to remember it. Some of the moments she got were so raw and emotional so it was worth it for us.
  • We have Heather Parker. She is not a budget photographer but her style is much more natural than a lot of others we looked at. We wanted more than just two people kissing, something more organic. We got samples of our engagement photos soon after we had our pictures done and was a real peach to work with.
  • when you first start looking at photographers, ask them for their packaging options but also see which photographer will be flexible to customize your package down to your budget. sometimes budget photographers might have stunning photographs while keeping their prices low because they don't have all those extras that you might/might not need....

  • I lost the link to my married bio but wanted to chime in here and let you know that our photographer was Heather Parker. I agree with what a few others have said, thousands of pictures are kind of useless. Quantity shouldn't matter. We got I think 600-ish photos all edited to perfection. We also had an engagement session. The photography was a splurge for us but we have no regrets after the fact. Food and photos were the most important parts of our wedding.
  • Like many other have said, it all depends on the style of photographs you are looking for and what you want (an album, engagement session, how many hours of coverage, etc etc). Photography was our biggest splurge, and I don't regret it! We love our photographer - Ashley Tilton, (http://ashleytiltonphotographer.wordpress.com/) and would recommend her to anyone without hesitation.. her work is excellent! If anyone wants more info on what we paid and such, feel free to PM me!
