We just got back from our honeymoon (Costa Rica) I definitely recommend this and a road trip version for the adventurous and love to explore newlyweds, we had a wonderful time and I have some hotels and restaurants and a car rental agency I would love to recommend if anyone is interested.
Venue- 43 Church street (Salem, MA formerly The Lyceum) It took a little work and time for it to all come together after a few changes were made with this venue but in the end we absolutely loved this place! The restaurant has hired a new event planner, Tina, and she is wonderful. She really knows what she is doing and was very helpful from beginning to end. The food and drinks were great, everything went well and the staff did a great job. The venue itself is so unique and people definitely noticed that. Salem was a really cool place for people to stay for the weekend, lots to do and a very walkable city. We also had our ceremony at the Salem old town hall, it was exactly the type of place I wanted but I will say the policies on the rental times and clean up for the ceremony fee are a little strange to me. They changed between the time we signed our agreement and had the wedding and although they were accommodating on some things on others I wasn’t totally happy with them, but it was the type of place I wanted to have the wedding so I would use them again.
Band- Ripcord (Joe Carson, jrcarson77@gmail.com) I cannot say enough about this part of the wedding! They made our night. People were commenting all night and the next day it was the best band they had ever heard. I found them through a friend and they play in bars in downtown Boston sometimes on the weekends. They can pretty much play anything and they are a very talented group of musicians. The guitarist, Chuck, also did acoustic guitar for our ceremony and was amazing. He teaches and writes his own music as well. The band played everything we requested as did Chuck at the ceremony. Everyone was on the dance floor all night long, which had been my fear that people might just sit around, having Ripcord was the best choice we made out of the wedding.
JP- Beverly Cook. Again (Beverly@beverlycookjp.com) Beverly was wonderful. We met with her twice before the wedding and she made us feel so comfortable. She is very warm and great at what she does. We decided we didn’t want a rehearsal since we were having a small wedding party, she was ok with this and really made sure the day of went smoothly, great at organizing and just the person you want up in front of a 100 of your closest friends and family with you on this important day. She gave a few winks to let us know we were doing alright and that was just what I needed J
Alterations- Fay Carraher (seams2fay@gmail.com) I think her name speaks for itself on this board. I wish I had invited her to my wedding in fact. She is just the most wonderful woman and I would drive to her anytime to have something altered. The dress was perfect and she put a lot of work and time into making it that way. Spent hours with my mother and I going over things and showing us the 27 point bustle.
Flowers- A whole bunch (Shannon Guthrie Burlington, MA) My flowers were exactly what I wanted, and it’s so hard to do when you don’t see them until the morning of your wedding. Shannon was fantastic and everything came out beautifully. My main wish was for peonies and amenomies and she made it happen! This is a small shop that really takes pride in their work and is also affordable.
Hair- Kelly Hogan (station34salon.com) She did a wonderful job for myself, flower girl, and two bridesmaids. Was even willing to do some extras who asked last minute. She was great with timing came to our hotel is Salem and did what everyone asked for.
Makeup- Kerri Herlihy (bostonmakeupartist@yahoo.com ), Great makeup and awesome to have around on the day of your wedding. She did makeup for the wedding party and a few others last minute as well, stayed around to do some touch ups for those who had it done earlier in the day and was wonderful. I loved all the makeup.
Coordinator- Robin Perry (rjperry@friendofthebride.org) We had our wedding ceremony at the Salem old town hall and there was no coordinator and with our short window for the rental time I wanted to make sure it was all set up correctly and the flowers were in place. Robin helped to make this all happen, she was great to have on the day of the wedding and would do anything you needed. She is very affordable and doesn’t have a minimum for the hours needed. She is a great asset to any bride who needs some extra help.
Photographer- Darry Madden, I only have one picture back but I love the one I have! I will review more later.
Dress and Accessories- I got my dress at brides for breast cancer, when it comes back in town I absolutely recommend this, found something I never would have tried on and the money goes to a great cause. I got my shoes and shoes to dye for in Natick, eh, not that great. I got mine dyed ivory and to me they just looked kind of dirty, a friend of mine got blue ones there and they didn’t look very good, she ended up buying new ones somewhere else. I got a lot of things of etsy and just love everything on there. Including my invitations from etsy, they came out better than I could have imagined. http://www.etsy.com/shop/lvandy27
Salem Waterfront Hotel- this is where we blocked rooms and stayed for two nights. We had a great experience here during the weekend, we worked with Adriana, she even gave me her cell phone number for the weekend in case we needed anything. I will say working out the block along the way can be frustrating but I’m glad we stayed here.
