The guy in Shoes to Dye for said cathedral veils are not good for an outdoor wedding because of the breeze, although I have never experienced it. My friend had one at her breezey outdoor wedding and her MOH eventually had to hold it behind her. I don't think the extra yard of tulle really adds much weight, to be honest. But if you have your heart set on one, just be prepared for it to fly around and give your MOH the heads up.

Here is an example of wind and veils:

I had a long veil and it blew right off my head when we left the Church! Just make sure to bring some bobby pins to secure it tightly if necessary!

My friend was MOH for her sister who got married outside near the ocean.  The wind was really strong and it blew her veil around like crazy.  My friend had to hold it through the whole ceremony, so in every picture you see her arm holding the veil.

I think especially if you are near the ocean, it is very likely to be windy.  So go either go with a short veil or no veil or just be ready for it to be flying around in the wind.
