Ceremony Under a Tree? Help!

It's my dream to get married under a big oak tree like this:

But I can't find any New England venues (with site fees under $4000) that have anything that comes close for a ceremony site. Any suggestions??? I'm open to parks or anything (although I want to keep rain plans in mind)! Any MA/RI/CT brides get married under a tree? (And not pines. I have an inexplicably strong aversion to coniferous trees.)

Re: Ceremony Under a Tree? Help!

  • How about Boston Public Gardens or Boston Common?
    Larz Anderson Park?
    Harvard Arboretum?

The picture you posted looks like a college campus, so maybe some local colleges have something like this.  There is also a nice green area not too far from Jamaica Pond, but I don't remember the name.  Honestly, I would just go visit a bunch of parks and see if you need a permit to get married at one.  It should not cost that much, but of course, you'd have to have the reception somewhere else.
  • Millbrook Meadow in Rockport MA?
  • Have you looked at the Gore Place? They had a nice tree to do the ceremony in front of, not quite as big as your picture. Don't remember if it's under your budget or not.
  • The bradley estate in Dedham. Thompson island in boston harbor
  • ll981248  Larz Anderson Park was near the top of my list, actually, but I just found out they don't start taking reservations until the beginning of the year in which the event is held. So I'd have to take my chances and wait until January... :( probably not worth it, right? The Common/Public Gardens and the Arboretum are amazing but you can only use them if you have a tiny number of guests, and I'll have at least 70 people. I'll look into more college campuses, though!

Most of those other suggestions are great in aesthetic but way out of my budget :/

But I'll take all the suggestions I can get! Anyone else??

  • The Red Barn in Amhearst. Not sure if the trees are pine though. http://www.hampshire.edu/specialprograms/2817.htm
  • Thanks so much for all of your help, everyone! I ended up finding the perfect tree in Roger Williams Park!!!
