Doing own hair and makeup?

Hi everyone!
I would so much appreciate your advice. I have a skin allergy to fragrance, which means I can't use most makeup lines. (Clinique and Almay are the only ones I have found.) Partly as a result of that, I am thinking to do my own makeup for my wedding, and was considering doing my own hair too (I have wavy hair - thinking of doing a side knot.)

Is this a bad idea? Are there special considerations when doing makeup that will be photographed alot? Did any of you do your own hair and makeup?

Thanks!!

I don't think this is a bad idea at all. I would definitely recommend trials with yourself often, with your dress on too. Take some pics to see how your makeup shows up in pics because often you need more than you would think.

I did my own makeup (had a talented friend do it) because I knew I would look terrible really made up (most people don't, but I do) and I couldn't have been happier. Even though I was wearing a decent amount of makeup you can barely tell.

Weird!  I tried replying to this and it posted on a thread on the Etiquette page!

    Lets try again:

I have considered doing my own hair.  I am really good at hair and am always the person my friends call to do theirs for special events.  My only hesitation is how I may perform under pressure the day of...
I think I am leaning towards having it done...but I am not 100% yet.

I am going to get my makeup done because I know I am going to be a dancing machine and I don't want to worry about messing up my makeup--I think a professional will be able to apply it better so it will stay all night.

If you know how to do it then go for it!  Im always jealous of people who can do their own hair.  I can barely do a ponytail.........

You could always let the makeup artist know that you have very sensitive skin?? For me anyway, so much money has gone into the wedding that I want to make sure I look amazing, and I personally cannot make myself look camera ready, I need help. Just practice a bunch of times and take pics to make sure you like how its all coming together:) good luck
