Looking for offbeat venue ideas in New England! Please help!

Hi all,

My fiance and I are new to this board but figured we'd give it a shot and see what others have seen out there! We have been looking for a budget wedding reception venue that has some unique qualities to it. I guess the best way to explain it is to tell you a little of the places we liked first!
  • The Lace Factory, Deep River, CT (liked the space and history but was way too pricey for our budget)
  • The Jones River Trading Company, Kingston MA (currently our top pick)
Our original idea stemmed from a web site that showed a wedding at a train depot in Salisbury, NC that was very rustic in feel. Unfortunately, New England seemed to have gotten rid of most of the vintage stations in favor of more modern settings. We have about 160 guests and a budget that will require a lot of DIY, if that helps!

We're looking for any place with the feel of Jones River or something that has a real historical or nostalgic significance to it. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance!

  • There's the Larz Anderson Car Museum in Brookline. Not sure if that qualifies as offbeat. :)

My FI and I just looked at the Mass Horticultural Society in Wellesley, MA. It was def different! You can get married in front of the mansion used in the movie Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. The grounds are lovely. Good luck!

  • The Charles river Museum in Waltham is in a restored Mill building, on the banks of the river ( used water power originally. All brick, huge high ceilings very historic New England and reasonably priced.
  • I just went to an event at the Waterworks Museum in Chestnut Hill.  Definitely different, and they've just started to do weddings.  You might be able to be one of the first!  Also, second the Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation in Waltham.
  • Thanks for the tips...keep em coming! We're looking into all of them :)

  • How much does Jones River Trading charge? I am still in the very beginning stages (don't have a date or anything yet) but I love the spot.
