I would agree but I always get the same thing at weddings...always chicken cuz I can eat the steak and I'm not a fish fan unless it's shrimp

it's not required for all vendors. i did not have to ask our guests their meal choice, they'll choose at the reception.

It costs more to be able to give people a choice in most cases.

I like giving people a choice.

I have opted for a duet plate, we had a choice of either that or choice of 2 with final counts due 2 weeks out, and I just saw that being a headache I could avoid.  So everyone will get chicken and steak, and then there will be a vegetarian option.

it is annoying!!! But Fi anf I always get one chicken and one beef between the two of us so it really doesnt matter when we pick it because that's always the result!

It would have been like $600 more to let guests pick table side and I decided to use that money elsewhere and just have them pick in advance, oh well!

The choices are pretty much usually beef-chicken-fish-vegetarian. So if you are "happy" with your choice, you will probably be ok when the event comes.

It's not required for all vendors though. When we were looking, we visited a few places that made our guests pre-select their choice. The place we had our selection did not require the guests to decide in advance. They did tableside ordering. But one place did say we could allow them to decide that night if we spent $5 more per person.

If this is your venue, find out how strict that number is. Is it exact? Or are they just looking for an estimate? (Like could people say beef on the card, but decide chicken at the dinner? Since only a few would "switch" their choice, would your venue be able to accommodate those few?) Or is the number you say exact? (and reflected in their place card?)

I hate it too!  I never remember what I ordered either.  I know some places will charge a bit more pp to have you order tableside, but I think it's a nice touch.  Personal preference though.

I just met with my caterer yesterday and I did have people choose what they wanted.  When I mentioned that, they were surprised, because they had done away with that practice.  So, even though I have a count, they will ask all the guests what they would like.

Venues usually count on a small percentage of people switching what they've ordered when they go to "confirm" (take orders) tableside.
