Help! Between the Cape, South Shore and a hard place!

Hello,

My fiancé and I have settled on a venue for our reception next year (Jones River Trading) but we’re having a really difficult time finding a ceremony spot within a 40 minute radius of Kingston, MA. We have a large gathering (150 people) but aren’t doing a religious ceremony so churches are out. Ideally, we’d like to have something with a unique flair that’s not in a country club-type setting - If it wasn’t so far away, the Endicott House up in Dedham is kind of what we’re going for if you can picture it! We’d love to do an outside ceremony but only if we can plan for inclement weather (we’ve seen a few spots that don’t allow tents). Any help is appreciated!

PS: You may see this post in the Cape Cod forum as well…wasn't sure where to post it since it’s between Boston and the Cape. Thanks!

  • Cold Spring Chapel in Plymouth might be an option but not sure how many it holds.  Brewster gardens in Plymouth is outside and beautiful but has no plan for rain.  Other thought is First Parish Unitarian in Kingston which is beautiful.  I think you could have an unreligious ceremony there.  Worth a shot.
  • The Daniel webster house in marshfield or the cesar house in Duxbury might work. There is also a community sailing center in Duxbury that has an indoor function room as well as a dock space - mot sure of the layout but worth a look. South shore Science center in Norwell has a pretty place for a wedding in the woods - under towering pines. They also have a small function room, although not sure it would hold 150 even standing. You could also pitch a tent in their field in the event of super bad weather. ( although that is pretty pricey for just a ceremony) Hingham historical society has a pretty garden behind its building, and a function room inside which might be perfect.
  • We got married at Sandy Beach in Cohasset, but there's no cover if the weather is bad.  Can't you do your ceremony at the reception spot?
  • What about getting married at Jones River? I just booked with them and I have 160 people and going to be having my short non religious ceremony there!
  • Thanks for all the great suggestions! We are going to start looking at some of these spots and see if they will work for us. We appreciate all of your ideas!
