Rustic New England Barn

We have been looking for a barn wedding venue for next summer.  There are several out there that are too expensive (Harrington Farm, Gibbet Hill) or do not have air conditioning for summer (Brooksbie).  We are looking in central or eastern Ma. , New Hampshire, or Maine.  The venue must be near hotel accom. for all of us and should be near a town where there are activities for our overnight guests.  Again, we are on a moderate budget.  Does anyone have an idea.  Thanks, Elizabeth

Re: Rustic New England Barn

  • Check Zukas, we got married at Harrington and I remember that place was cheaper (it's near Worcester also).

  • There is also Smith barn in peabody.  I am not sure about air conditioning though.  I do know they have several different caters so the prices are all different.  It does not cost that much to rent the venue though.

  • We wanted the same but venues were either way too pricey as you said or places like the Smith Barn (I'm pretty sure they have AC) booked up at least 2 1/2 yrs in advance! One place we almost opted for that was a victorian house on a beautiful golf course with a barn in the back....and was SUPER affordable was the Stowe Acres in Stowe MA. The Coordinator was a little harsh but it is a great venue :)

  • As someone said Harrington is beautiful but pricy. The Shattuck has that beam ceiling look also in Jaffrey NH, but hotels are scarce up there. Have you looked at the Old Mill in Westminster? It's very pretty with the water and ducks at the entrance and about as rustic as it gets and very affordable. The Red Apple farm in Phillipston has a place to hold weddings also, I'm not sure, but I think you bring your own caterer in for that one.
  • There's also Stonewall Farm in Keene, NH: http://www.stonewallfarm.org/
  • Salem Cross in West Brookfield, MA is where we are getting married, its beautiful!  We also looked at Zukas, their inside location is rustic yet clean and modern, but they only offer tent weddings during the summer.  Publick House in Sturbridge, MA is another option.  Publick House and Salem Cross are definitely cheaper than Harrington.
  • I don't know if this will work for you but the Rockport Art Museum is comprised of buildings that were barns in their previous life.  The back gallery still has the barn door and the ceilings are beamed.  I hope this helps.
  • Thanks everyone.  I appreciate you taking time to give suggestions. I have been checking them out. No luck yet.
  • There is The Red Barn at Hampshire College in Amherst,Ma. That is quite far from you, but it's nice. I stayed away from it, just because of our budget. The Red Barn is right in the center of Amherst, near hotels & entertainment.

  • Salem Cross (although I'm not a huge fan), Publick House (again, not a fan-sorry), Red Barn and Old Sturbridge Village - there are old rustic barns and taverns at the village. Good luck!

Smith Barn is the barn at Brooksby, it doesn't have air conditioning but is a really great location, you could consider renting fans if it was super hot. I am getting married there in a month and hopefully it won't be too hot!
