etiquette question

So we have been steadily receiving shower gifts at home (assumably from people not attending).  Yesterday, we received a gift that was wrapped.  Is it ok to open this gift, or should it be brought to the shower.  I haven't gotten any that were wrapped before!  I don't want to open it and then have the person be at the shower and be upset their gift didn't make it.

There was one that magically went to my mother's house as well (even though her address wasn't listed anywhere).  Do I open that one, or bring it to the shower?

Also, I guess bringing them to the shower will be difficult for me, since I don't know when it is.....

I would assume that if the gift was sent to your house it was from someone who couldn't make the shower. We were sent e-gifts from people who couldn't make it to our party or who lived far and wouldn't see us til the wedding.

It might be easier to delegate the gifts to someone else, perhaps your mother? If you want the gifts brought to the shower, ask her if she would be willing to transport them, etc. I'm also assuming that she will probably know when your shower is.

If you don't care about bringing them to your shower then I'd just open them at home and sent the thank you note out. It might just be easier in the end to do it this way.

I would open them right away and send a thank you.  If someone was planning on attending your shower, I don't think they woukd send you the gift ahead of time.

I agree... even if its wrapped.. I doubt they are attending if they sent the gift to your home. I say open it up and get a thank you card out!

    :)

My Shower isn't until June.  and we have received 2 gifts already, 1 from his mother in Washington state, and the other from his Sister in Germany.  We will be saving the gifts to open at the shower.   I did call them when the gifts arrived (they were wrapped from Bed Bath and Beyond) to let them know that they arrived, and then I will send the thank you cards after the shower.  Maybe because its my FI parents, and I want him to feel them that day.  Just my thoughts
