John LoConte Photography or Shane Godfrey Photography - Reviews?

Hi, so we're meeting with John LoConte next week to see if we'd like to hire him as our wedding photographer.  We're getting married on 5/22/11 at the Cambridge Hyatt.  I love John's work, but the only thing I'm a little nervous about is that it's only him - so no second photographer.  I feel like with one photographer, we might miss out on a lot of shots.  However, John gets such positive reviews on these boards - I was wondering if someone could give me some guidance here?  A lot of places, magazines, boards, etc. say choose you should try to have two photographers.  Can anyone how has used John LoConte tell me what they thought of the experience of having just one photographer instead of two?

We are also possibly looking at Shane Godfrey as a photographer - his package comes with 2 photographers.  Can anyone give me any recommendations about him?

Any help is appreciated!

Hi! I just posted reviews of John, but I had to put in my two cents here too! I LOVED working with John! My husband and I used John in July, he was phenomenal! The price is great and the man is so wonderful! I felt comfortable and at ease with him. He was always quick to respond to my e-mails and always willing to brainstorm with me about what I might want. He got phenomenal photos and even documented little details I never would have remembered if he didn’t go out of his way to notice little things at every moment of the day! When at one point he mentioned sometimes his wife comes along and helps him, so if you truly feel you need a second person I am under the belief you can have him and his wife. However, I have so many photos I couldn’t imagine what I would do if I had two photographers worth of images! I got every image, every detail, every special moment, and more with just John. John is a truly fantastic person and his product is just as great as he is! I highly recommend him and hope I get another chance to work with him, maternity shoot maybe! Good luck with your wedding planning!

I'm late to this one but I want to throw my two cents in here on the 2 v 1 photogragher issue. My sister and a few of my friends had 2. All used different people but all had the same experience:  it was too much. They all got over 2000 raw shots, most of which were repetitive or low quality. It took them forever to go through all those pics and find the best shots. Most family gave up on ordering online because it was too daunting to scroll through all 2000+ and started bugging the brides to find pics for them and print them. It just turned into a lot of work for my sis and friends after the wedding! Out the 2000+ on average about 500 were decent and then the best shots about (200 or so) came from the principal photographer. I really don't think its about quantity as much as quality. I'd rather have fewer high quality images than 2000 so-so ones. Just after seeing bride and bride go through this I'm not sure I'd trust the advice of the magazines on this. Like my mom said "I got married in 1968 and EVERYONE only had 1 photographer, I don't know where all this nonsense came from. Who wants two flashes popping all night anyway? and really as long as they get you dancing, kissing, and throwing the bouquet the rest is just fluff." lol. love my mom.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!  We actually ended up booking John LoConte, and after meeting with him and reviewing the full work for a wedding he did, we decided one photographer would be enough.  I think we'd rather put the extra money towards an album.

venrena  - I totally agree.  Once I saw that John got all of the important stuff, plus some - I realized we definitely don't need the second photographer.  I don't want to be overwhelmed with photos, but I do want to have a good selection which I think he'll be able to offer us.
