Indian Wedding Boston

Hi everyone,
We're looking to get married in the Boston area (either within or up to an hour outside of  th city). We're having an Indian wedding with about 220-250ppl and would love outdoor space or an area with nice windows...but hoping to find something affordable.

Just starting the process and would appreciate any advice from brides- never knew how much work this would be!

Thanks so much for any help.

I had a sort-of Indian wedding (western ceremony and reception, but a lot of Indian touches and food). I had a wedding planner and she was invaluable, especially for the venue searching part. She looked at all of the venues in the city, taking into account an estimated guest count and the fact that we had to bring in Indian food (not all venues allow this). She gave us a list and we looked at a lot of them and decided to go with Mandarin Oriental.

Danversport Yacht Club has a room that would fit your guest count and the prices are very reasonable, but I don't know if they will allow an Indian caterer.

She was a complete godsend. I was working a *lot* during the time I was planning and I was not stressed at all throughout the process. She was worth every penny.

The Burlington Marriott is affordable and is known for hosting large Indian weddings and I'm almost certain that they allow outside caterers.

The Hyatt on Memorial drive does indian food but I am not sure of the capacity for weddings. We attended an indian wedding there recently and it was great especially the views. There was an article in the Globe a few months back about indian weddings.

A good starting point is to determine what your budget is for food/reception. This doesn't include your gown/sari, flowers, photo/video, cake... just the reception and food part. and figure out how much you can afford per person.

I looked at a bunch of places and ultimately decided on the Sheraton Boston for 250 people. They allow outside caterers.
I also seriously considered the Burlington Marriott. They do a ton of Indian weddings and their base fee for room rental is very reasonable and includes a lot of things like chiavari chairs and upgraded linens, some flowers and cake. However, they have contracts with only Gourmet India and Bombay Club and you HAVE to go through the hotel to get the catering quote. The hotel takes a cut of the caterers profit, so the caterer offers a higher base price (about 25-30% higher) than what he would if you were negotiating with them independently.

Others that also allow Indian caterers:
    -Hyatt Regency Cambridge
    -Marriott Long Wharf
    -Hilton Back Bay
    -Doubletree Westboro
    -Doubletree Cambridge

Also, the InterContinental has an on-site chef who does Indian inspired food which I have heard is good. It was too pricey for me, but if your budget allows, check them out.

My venue recently started to do Indian weddings--the Four Points Sheraton Norwood--I had a great experience there and would work with them again in heartbeat!

I am getting married at the State room, and they allow Indian food from any caterer.  We are using Mela since it is my favorite Indian restaurant :D
