Home wedding?

Hey all just wondering if I can get some input from some of you. My grand pop has very generously offered to let us have the wedding at his house! I would love to do this, and as we are planning on having a pig roast, BBQ style wedding i thought it would be perfect. I would like to keep cost in mind though, and have heard that having a wedding at home can actually be more expensive than renting a venue. Has anyone else looked into this? We are planning on having a mid size wedding; 60-70 people. and we would need to rent tents and all that. Any ideas would be appreciated!

If you are from Boston any reason you posted this on the Philadelphia bored?  also try posting this on the budget wedding board or on the etiquette board they get a lot more action than this one

  • Hi, I just had a DIY backyard wedding a couple weeks ago for 80 ppl. We rented the tent, tables, chairs, linens, and brought in a BBQ caterer for ribs, pulled pork, etc.  We also hired a DJ, bartender, photographer and rented an upscale bathroom trailer (more expensive than portapotties). I made all of the decorations myself and did some things on cheap but didn't really watch the budget TOO closely. All in all it cost us about $10K (not incl. honeymoon or rings) but I think it could have feasibly been done for closer to $7K depending on what you'd want to cut.  It was a fantastic time and one of the positives is that I was able to make it EXACTLY what I wanted it to be. However, know that it was a TON of work and I would suggest that you hire a coordinator if you aren't an extremely organized person who loves to plan.  Feel free to PM me if you want more info!

</div><div>I disagree!!! I did my wedding at home and costed much less... you have to know how to do your research!!!</div><div>
</div><div>I got many decoration ideas watching the movie the father of the bride 1. Amazing decoration.</div><div>To economize with catering you don't hire a restaurant and workers... </div><div>You can hire a privite chef that works for restaurants and he will have his crew. </div><div>
</div><div>I did a Brazilian BBQ for my reception. The best ever!!! and I hired a personal chef.... don't search online because can be expensive! ask your friends if they know someone.... </div><div>
</div><div>I can share with you the person's contact for your event. send me an e-mail. fabijensen@hotmail.com</div><div>
</div><div>Also if you are searching for a make up artist I can send my make up pictures to you! I paid very expensive for a trial and I hated it and I found a girl that did an amazing job and her price was amazing 200 for a free trial, airbrush make up, fake lashes, hair up do and she travelled to my home. </div><div>
</div><div>instead renting lots of tables just buy or rent a huge one and buy the fabric per feet and buy decoration on web sites has some nice candles, vases...! you will economize lots of money. type on google wedding decoration craft supplies and you will find lots of stores online with amazing prices.</div><div>
</div><div>The only thing you will need to rent it's the plates and silverware and you can find online some clear cups glass looking like in this site <a href="http://sumethingblue.wordpress.com/tag/centerpiece/" rel="nofollow">http://sumethingblue.wordpress.com/tag/centerpiece/</a></div><div>
</div><div>They all look like glass but it's not! you can also decorate them with hot glue and some cute flowers on the bottom. Tends doesn't cost that much to rent and if it's too expesive in Boston just take a trip to Maine and rent them for half price.</div><div>
</div><div>One good idea it's like in the father of the bride... Buy or rent a parachute tent and place lights top to bottom. Watch the movie and you will see what I am talking about.</div><div>
</div><div>Good lucky and contact me if you need ideas and the personal chef that I hired fabijensen@hotmail.com</div><div>
    </div><div>Congrats.</div><div>
