Newly Engaged!! Ring Appraisal help!

Happy Weekend! I am so happy to be newly engaged to my best friend! I am completely in love with my ring but for insurance purposes would like to get an independent appraisal. Was wondering if anyone has tips/suggestions as to where to get this done!

The jewelry store we bought our setting from (diamond was his mother's) did a free appraisal of the entire ring, which we used for insurance purposes.

Hello:
Congrats on your engagement!  We got our ring appraised at Jared in Burlington, MA. I believe my FI paid about $175.  He didn't buy the ring there and didn't get it appraised until months 2 months after our engagement.  The main reason he got it appraised there is because most places send your ring out someplace else and don't return it to you immediately (anywhere from 1 week to 2 weeks).  My FI was not comfortable with this at all and Jared's offered an appt system where they bring in an outside appraiser and you meet with them for an for on-the-spot appraisal.  We felt we had a great experience there and were treated very well.  Their appraiser comes in once a month to the store so you must make an appt.

He actually got the ring through an online retailer with a physical store in NY and all the jewelry is hand made abroad. He did all his homework and checked up on the company but we just want to be sure the ring is what it is supposed to be while we're within the 30 day return window!

Go to a local jeweler, not a chain. You will get better service and start a relationship that you can have maintaining the ring for life, and any other jewelry your future holds! In Cambridge, Pacheco jewelers on Cambrdige st are great! Good luck!

Congrats! I went to Barmakian in Nashua, NH (I didn't buy the ring there) and they charged me $75.
