November Weddings - is it too risky?

We are about to confirm the venue we LOVE in NH but the only date available is November 17th. We are so worried that it will be too cold (there will be a heated tent) but then again, it could be pouring in September if we chose that date. Does anyone have any experience or feedback?

  • I don't think you can ever know what the weather will be like in New England, like this past year has been a good example with snow storms on April 1st and October 31st and then 60 degree weather in January. Is the whole wedding going to be in a tent or just the ceremony? And would they offer an indoor option if it ends up being too cold? If they do offer an indoor option I'd say definitely go for it, but if not it might be a little risky. That's just my personal opinion though!

We got married on November 11th, it was extremely cold out. We had only a few pictures taken outside but got married and had our reception indoors. We were freezing for the outside pics. Is there an indoor option for your venue? We personally LOVED getting married in November, we didn't regret it for a moment.

  • We got married November 5th.  November is nice because venues usually give discounts and vendors are easy to come by because November is not a popular month.  I suggest that you not have a tent reception.  I was in a wedding on Oct. 22nd and it was a tent reception.  Even with heaters, it was rather cold.  Even moreso when we were standing in sleeveless gowns for the outdoor ceremony.  I think anything after the middle of October is risky when it comes to holding the ceremony or reception outdoors.

Where in NH are you looking? The lakes region could have snow by then, but Nashua might be a safer bet.  My advice is to ditch the tent and go indoors.  Like PP said, I loved getting married in November.  But that Halloween blizzard made my week extremely stressful -- my venue got their power back two days before the wedding!

  • I've had parties for Christmas with a heated tent in Connecticut and we were fine! Just make sure they secure the bottom of the tent so warm air can't escape. They didn't do that the first year we rented a tent and the next year it made a huge difference.
