And THIS is why I am planning a wedding

I mailed my STDs over the weekend, and the comments are starting to come in. This afternoon, a friend sent me a message on facebook, saying how amazing our venue looks, and how she has never been to New England and is so excited to make the trip!! It made me feel awesome :)

What was even more exciting? Just hearing from someone I really want to be there (other than the people who you know will come) that she is going to be there!! Yea!

Those compliments really make the hard work worth it. I love going to FI's family's homes and seeing our STD on their fridges. :o)

I can't WAIT to pick out my save the dates - but my wedding is over a year away!  When can I finally send them?!

I sent mine out in the first week of November '09 for my June '10 wedding. I think anywhere from 6-8 months is safe.

You could send them anywhere from 8-12 months. I wish I had sent mine out sooner, but from what I'm hearing it didn't really matter.

A lot of girls who are getting married in the summer are sending them out the full year ahead to accomodate summer vacation plans. I think you have to know your guests- don't want them to forget about it, or have them receive it too late.

    Alexagrant-
I believe the general rule of thumb for STDs is 6 months. Then invites go out 6-8 weeks.

However, I have gotten an STD (wow, that sounds bad, hehe), about 8 months out when it was a summer wedding in peak season for a vacation area (Cape May in NJ).

Unless it will be hard to book accomodations (like for MV, Cape Cod, Nantucket, etc), but even for those places 6 months should be plenty of notice. Most of the guests probably won't book that early anyway.

Aw - thanks for sharing!  I forgot about how great that was when the STD's were in the mail.  It made it all REAL for the first time.  Now you're in people's calendars :-)

I love that too!  The downer is when people tell you they CAN'T make it.  But in a way, that's good too because the more you can plan for, the better!

I love that feeling! All my friends keep commenting about how much they are looking forward to the wedding, It literally makes me swell with so much love for them! I know it's totally sappy but I don't care! It makes all the headaches worth it!

I agree! I sent my STD's the end of last summer for my June wedding and now I have out of towners saying how much they are looking foward to my wedding! That makes me so happy b/c i have so many friends who live far away and I wasn't sure exactly who could afford to come and stay.  I can't wait to send out the invites next month and to start getting the RSVP's!
