sending an invite but not a save the date

Is it ok to send invites to people who did not get save the dates?  The people in question know the STD's went out (about 6 wks ago) so not sure what would be more impolite:  not getting one at all or getting one 6 wks after everyone else?
Btw, invites will be going out in about a month.

* Some background*  they are friends of friends, that we have recently become more social with.  They are at every gathering we are at and people have been talking so much about our pending wedding in front of them that now feel like they must be invited.
Thanks for your help:)

Re: sending an invite but not a save the date

  • I didn't send out STDs.. but if I did... I wouldn't have sent them to EVERYONE on the guest list.  I don't think they would be offended.. as long as the formal invite is sent out the same day as everyone else.  (I can see it being offensive to get a late formal invite)

    HTHs!
  • Sure, that's fine.  Most of our local guests didn't get STDs, just invites.  Our STDs were primarily for OOT family and friends, to give them a little extra time to think about travel plans.

  • It's fine, as long as they get their invite at the same time the rest of your group does.  STDs aren't obligatory, and mainly meant for OOTers, anyway.
  • In my opinion its absolutely fine to send invites to people who didnt get save the dates. I really doubt anyone would quesiton even why they didnt get one. Go for it girl! Good Luck

  • I think it's fine! We ended up being able to invite some people after we sent out STDs. I really don't think they cared.

This is for me, too. We included hotel block information and closest airports in our STDs, which local guests wouldn't need.
