    Hi ladies!

Prof - that wine bar sounds fun.  Enjoy it.
  • Mrs.B, what do you teach?

  • Yay, night thread!

FI is watching the original Godzilla movie in Japanese with subtitles, and I'm surfing TK/TN for amusing threads (and coming up empty, boo).

In WR news, my mom is driving me insane - she wants us to use a particular DJ company, and while we're probably going to go with them, we haven't made a final decision yet, and she keeps launching into 20-minute rants about why we "must" use her preferred company.  I love my mom, but she's being a weirdo right now.

  • Why is your mom so stuck on this particular DJ company?
  • Loopy, I have to agree with everyone that I love your new sig picture.

FI and I painted the kitchen today. The whole thing took 7 hours with taping the baseboards/cabinets moving out the appliances to paint behind and clean up. Not sure if that amount of time is normal or we just suck at painting.

  • She knows the owner from back when he was in HS through her church, and my family has used them for over a decade for events at this point (my Sweet 16 was one of the owner's early gigs as an MC), so she thinks it would be "disloyal" if we went with someone else.  I do like the idea of using them, but my FI doesn't have the same personal connection to the company that I do, and wanted to meet with a few other people and do some research before making our deposit, so I'm waiting for him to wrap-up his research, and we'll probably make the official call on Monday.  I've explained this to her at least four times, but apparently Monday will come faster if she lectures me more often?

And Petal, I worked as a painter for my college one summer, and that's a completely normal amount of time for painting a complicated room like a kitchen.  :-)

  • Petal - that sounds completely normal for painting a kitchen.

Prof - first grade.   I spent 7 years in 1st through 3rd grades, went to middle school for 9 years, and came back down after BB was born.  Mr B teaches physics, engineering, and robotics.

  • Thanks guys. I was thinking we were just bad at it. We kept wondering why we didn't hire someone to do it. I don't think FI will ever want to paint again.

I think robotics would be an interesting and fun class to teach.

  • How's it going with the young kids B?  Are you enjoying going back to elementary again?
  • Nope, Petal - home improvements are kind of a biitch.  And always take longer than you think.
  • sounds like a nice evening Bree.  How's portland treating you?  Settling in?

Petal, the only reason I survived a summer as a painter was because my boss was this awesome Irish guy who would take us to lunch at a local Irish bar and buy us Guinness at least 3 days a week - I was 19 at the time, so the whole bar/Guinness/slightly drunk working thing was pretty much the coolest thing ever.

The actual painting was lame though.

  • And Bree, it's nice to know I'm not the only one with parents who care about the DJ.  Your day sounds like it was awesome - what movie are you picking?

  • Evening ladies.  Great day.  Hung out with my children last evening and today until my daughter had to get to work.  Then hit the mall and spent the gift card my mom had gotten me for xmas.  Drove north 2 hours to arrive home for dinner with FI and just as we sat down his work phone rang.  Off to work he went.  We are experiencing 40+ mph winds tonight.  Could be a long night for dear FI.

Loopy, I absolutely love your new sig picture.  It is one of my new favorites, truly captures the moment.

Mrs.B, did you have a good day visiting the new babyH?

And Petals, I hate to paint.  I am not good at it at all.  FI on the other hand doesn't mind, so we make a good team I suppose.

  • Sparkly, my mom would be refused all further wedding information if she busted out a spreadsheet, but she's also not hosting the wedding, so it'd be particularly crazy of her.  Live bands are fun though, it's cool that you're having one.  I was originally thinking band, but they were cost-prohibitive, so now we're thinking DJ plus percussionist.

Bree, Moulin Rouge is one of my all-time favorites, I fully support that selection.

Bree- you've got a great siggy pic, too!

He LOVES teaching robotics. He built the practice arena in the room for the competitions. They've gone to one already this year and it was really cool.  The kids are working on building their bot for the next one.  And the competition theme is..... Harry Potter!  I hope I get to go see that one.

I do like first grade - it was my first teaching assignment many moons ago.  I stayed home with BB last year and when I saw her hit the year mark in June, I was just amazed at how quickly she was developing her language and communication skills and showing a real interest in books and learning.  It made me realize how much I missed those primary elementary years when the little light bulbs are starting to go off when they learn to "really" read.  It makes me happy. =-)

It's definitely a big change from MS, though. I had forgotten how tough it is to teach so many different subjects each day.  It's also changed DRASTICALLY in the 9+ years I've been out of elementary.  I mean, that's no surprise because education across the board is changing, but it's definitely tougher than it used to be.  I also am VERY critical of myself and am a perfectionist/type A so it's been very hard for me to adjust to being Mrs. B, the teacher and Mrs. B, the mom and trying to do both jobs to my self-critical standards because I don't do either halfway.   I'm slowly figuring out how to balance it, though. I've got myself on a schedule for housework and schoolwork during the week ( a little bit each night) so that I can have Saturdays and Sundays to relax and play with the family.  That didn't exactly happen this week, though, because of report cards. It kind of threw me off a bit.

  • Ides of March was okay.  I mostly watched it cause some of it was filmed at my alma mater, and cause George Clooney (looks old) and Ryan Gossling are worth watching.
  • Ski - yes I did!  SHe was so snuggly.  I didn't get baby fever, though, because my uterus knows that my mind and body are at their limits at the moment.  ;-)

  • Glad you did it J&K.  I've been out of my routine with post work interviews and last week H was home so I haven't done a "regular" work out in over 2 weeks.  I need to get back to it Tuesday night no matter what.
  • Hola, all.

Didn't get much done today.  The NE girls were supposed to meet up but due to illnesses and changes in plans, it fell through.  I spent most of the day knitting and doing homework.  Not a terrible way to spend a day, just not all that exciting.

    Hi Bay!
I packed two boxes, and wrestled the mixer back into it's original box (SO glad we threw that in the attic when we got the mixer).  Sio your day tops mine :).
  • Yeah, I did Day 1 (the Fit Test) on Monday, but then my schedule got crazy, plus I realized I wasn't in good enough shape to jump right into an intense 6 day a week program, so I'm spreading the first week out over two weeks.  But I'm afraid I won't ever move again after this.  Ha!

  • Sounds like a delightful day Bay.

I am looking for two pictures my sister requested today.  She is a manager of a scrapbooking store and wants to try something for my STD's.  I LOVE HER!
  • J - that's why I didn't work out today - it's been too long, and I don't want to be sore at my interview on Monday so at this point I'll pick it up on Tuesday when I'm back.
