Christmas thank you notes

This year we spent Christmas with my family and FI's family sent us home with wrapped Christmas presents when we visited for Thanksgiving.

I'm feeling it would be proper to send a thank you note. Would you suggest I send one to each of his sisters too?

We mailed them their presents. I guess I don't want them to see it as odd, or like I'm condescending since I'm pretty sure they won't send us thank you notes. But technically it is correct, since we did not open the packages in front of them, right? Last year I said thank you in person because we opened gifts with each of our families (his on Christmas, mine a few days later).

I know, it's a weird thing to worry about.

  • I would, esp since you couldn't thank them in person.

  • It's never a bad idea to send a thank you note. I'm sure they'd find it sweet.

  • I'd be more likely to call and thank them than send a thank you note. Just depends on the family and what they normally do.

Yeah, FI called and thanked them when we opened them and said, "Meredith loves her presents. She's wearing the slippers you gave her right now." But I should have insisted he put me on the phone too.

Thanks guys. I needed a push to actually do this. I'll send the TY.

  • I would probably just call, but there's nothing wrong with cards.

  • I'd send a note.  It's still a nice thing to do, even if you could get away with a call.

I always send one to my grandmother, even though I call anyway.  She gets a kick out of it.
