Thank you cards

Need some help wording a thank you card to my in laws. I want to thank them for their gift but also want to include a note about how excited I am to be a part of their family and don't really know the best way to get my sentiments across! Can anyone help with some suggestions or with some knowledge of what is appropriate to say in a thank you card to the in laws? Thanks!

You are probably over thinking it. I always fall back on simplicity:

Dear Mr and Mrs Doe (or John and Jane),

We appreciate the gift of the waffle maker that you gave us for our new home together. Bob and I are breakfast fanatics! But on a personal note, I personally wanted to thank you for the warm welcome into your lives. I feel as if I am family, and that is a truly priceless gift.

I look forward to many years of love laughter and waffles!

I like PPs wording a lot, but just wanted to add:  I read this as in laws like immediate MIL, FIL, not random new cousins, etc. so I figured you might want to express more than just a one liner.  Also, since wedding and shower gifts are technically to you and FI I tried to keep the thank yous coming from both of us; while I think the above is great if you're going to write more than that I'd find it a little odd when it's really supposed to be about both of you.  In that case you can always write them a seperate note just to let them know how much you appreciate their warm welcome - I'm sure they'd love to receive a note like that at your rehearsal dinner.
