Opinions Needed...

FI and I are trying to decide on "our song" for the wedding.

We are considering "And So It Goes" by Billy Joel , we are aware of the sadness of this song, but felt if put in the context of a wedding could have a completely different feel - thoughts on this?

these lines:
"And so it goes, and so it goes
And so will you soon I suppose"

kill the song for me as a wedding song (especially a first dance). not what I would choose just based on those two lines. it basically says, "I think you're about to leave me."

In all honesty I have no idea what the song is, and I dont feel like finding out BUT... our first dance song was not really very loving or positive towards relationships. We both loved the song, it was good for dancing, so we chose it. If the song means something to the both of you (not because of the lyrics necessarily, but because you have some kind of attachment to it), go for it. Most likely no one will be sitting with a lyrics sheet infront of them or really paying attention.

My sister's last song of the night was Piano Man which is technically a depressing song, but everyone sang along and had a good time.

However, out of that came a request for Bon Jovi, You give love a bad name.  The DJ played that and we continued to sing along.  Not great songs to end a wedding to but my sister and her DH had a good time (as did we).

My sister's first dance was "I got you babe" but I don't think anyone was paying that much attention.  I wouldn't notice what song you were playing but if your guests are like the ladies above and would listen, they might wonder about your "message."

I would be a little perplexed if I heard "And So It Goes" play as the song for a first dance.  I do notice songs and that one is beautiful, but even in the context of a wedding, it's a serious downer.

But Smokes, those are all awesome upbeat drinking/party songs.

"And so it goes" doesn't even masquerade as an upbeat song. Even if it was a happy song, the sound of it is just fucking depressing.

I don't understand why you ask for our opinions anymore, when everyone on here spent several pages telling you your choice in wedding dress was probably not the best before you bought it...and you did it anyway.

Honestly, if I saw a couple dancing to that song I'd wonder whether or not I should stop payment on the wedding gift check.
