Question

I was thinking about buying a crinoline and dying it red. I tried doing a google image search to see how it would look and I couldn't find any pictures. I am still even debating on getting a crinoline. Do you ladies think it is worth it? Also do you think it is a good idea to dye it or just leave it as it is.

Re: Question

  • I would just leave it as it is. The dyed crinoline trend seems overdone, IMO.

  • Sorry, I dont think I can take you seriously with the word "snuggiebear" in your ticker.

  • There are many ladies who have done this.  If you are interested in the process... go over and post this on the DIY board.  The crinoline can make or break the dress.  You'll just have to see.

  • I think the died crinoline trend is dying down a bit.  I've never seen it in real life but I've seen a lot of pictures here on the Knot and they're always cute.  Ditto Salty - ask on the DIY board for more info.

  • Fishy thanks for reminding me... I have been meaning to change that forever. Anyways thank you ladies for the advice, I don't think I will dye it, knowing me it will just make a huge mess lol.

ETA:  Just wanted to add that I think this is the thing that will make you cringe when you will look back on in your wedding pictures and will make you say, "That was so 2010"

  • Does the shape of your dress look better with the crinoline?  If so, then get it.  I think the coloring is completely unnecessary, though.  But, I suppose, if you have the time and patience to do it, whatever.  It's not something I would do.
  • pag, what's the deal with that one girl on your club board's cake topper? the egg in the egg?

More like "That was so 2008" or "2009" honestly.

  • Most dresses look better with a crinoline, so I would try yours on with on to see if it makes it look better.

I personally wouldn't dye because it doesn't seem to be as popular anymore.  But if you want it, go for it.
  • Okay so no dying the crinoline for me lol. I think I would probably manage to get red dye all over the apartment and FI would not be happy with me.

I disagree that most dresses look better with one. In my experience, many dresses have all the structure they need already built in. I cringe when I see dresses with a wad of extra tulle they don't need.

But, absolutely try it on and see if you do need it. Most dress shops will be eager to sell you one (one shop I went to was even pushy about it with a dress that didn't need it), so you shouldn't have any issues with getting them to let you try one on.
