Gift for Engagement party

We just got invited to an engagement party and it sounds like it's going ot be pretty lavish, but not ure what to wear ot what type of gift to give? Please help.

Engagement parties are not typically gift-giving occasions. Well wishes are the only necessary gift. 

That being said, if you suspect the majority of guests will bring a gift, why don't you google their names to see if they have already set up a registry?

a bottle of wine, champagne, flowers, chocolates, or see if they have a registry yet and get something small.

As for what to wear, I would look at the venue and the formality of the invitations to dictate dress. If you know of other friends invited, you might also ask them what they plan to wear.

For gifts, you could see if they already have a registry or not. Otherwise, a bottle of wine and a nice card is good I think.

You live in NYC?

Yes, they are gift giving occasions here but nothing that big.  Picture frame, candles, the like are fine.  A bottle of wine is common.

Dress?  Depends on the time but if it's an evening affair, LBD is fine

Only a couple of people didn't bring gifts to our e-party, we got $25-40 items from our registry (although our parents went all out and got big things), and lots of bottles of alcohol.

Unless the engaged couple doesn't drink. I swear, the year I turned 21, one of my aunts was thrilled because all of my alcohol ended up going to her.
