Do you freeze bread or milk?

Re: Do you freeze bread or milk?

  • FWIW, I keep our bread in the fridge. It keeps a lot longer than ina bread box or on the counter or whatever.  We're dieting right now so we're not eating bread but Baby Bee eats 1/2 slice almost daily so it takes like 2 weeks to use a loaf and we've never had it go bad.

  • We freeze bread because we use a lot of it, and I always want it on hand.

Milk and bread don't last long enough in my house to ever be frozen.  School lunches and snacks and all that jazz.  I freeze bagels and stuff and then forget about them.  I'm not good at conservation.
  • I always freeze bread and rolls because we can't eat an entire loaf of bread before it goes bad. I like to toast my bread and rolls anyway, and they taste the same.

Milk, no way. I don't drink milk and that would go double for frozen.

  • I never heard of freezing milk!  I do freeze bread though.  If it helps anyone, I found putting it in the microwave with a cup of water helps it not come out so hard and nasty.  We don't eat a lot of bread so we end up freezing what we have so it doesn't go bad.

[QUOTE]I can't keep enough milk to justify freezing it. I drink milk like every cow on earth is going to die tomorrow.

I have never frozen milk, but I do freeze bread when I buy two loaves at a time at Costco.  It's fine.

  • I have frozen both.

When I had a country house, we would only be there Friday night - late Sunday afternoon  We didn't use that much but if I froze it, it would be there for when we arrived on Friday night, usually after the stores closed.
  • I can't believe so few people freeze milk! We lived so far from the grocery store that Mom would buy 5 or 6 gal at a time and freeze it.
It does turn yellow while it's frozen because of the butterfat. Once it's thawed out thought, it's white again. (we drank whole milk).
And the "expiration date" on milk is actually a "sell by" date. It's definitely good for a couple of weeks after that date. Expired dairy products have no "gray area." Pretty much the minute they are bad, they smell WAY OFF.

    ALSO:
Icy milk on cereal was probably my favorite summer breakfast growing up.

  • I don't freeze milk. we just don't use it that much and I usually buy it in small quantities. I have, however, frozen cream before.

I freeze bread all the time. I don't use it much and only usually eat it as toast and it tastes fine. I like to make PB&J on toasted bread. Yum.

Think about all the frozen bread and rolls they sell at the grocery store, like Texas Toast.  They're always delicious, aren't they?

I freeze bread all the time.  The only time I've ever had a bad result was with hamburger and hot dog buns that I threw right into the freezer.  I guess they should have been in freezer bags.

I also keep my bread in the refrigerator, and it lasts forever.

  • We'll freeze bread (the foodsaver is awesome), but we've never intentionally tried to freeze milk.

Our fridge is a mutant though and will get so cold (without anyone adjusting the temperature) and things freeze. We had a frozen block of milk for a couple of days. After it thawed, we were hesitant to try, but it was fine. I still didn't drink it because I'm weird about milk older than three days, but we used it in cooking.

  • We freeze cheese and butter. We eat bread too fast, (although now that I think about it we should stock up and keep some in the freezer) and I never knew you could freeze milk.

    VOM.

I am a little weird about my dairy products as well. I cant imagine using my milk weeks after the date, I get grossed out using it one day after.
  • We go through a lot of bread since we both make our lunches for work everyday so I buy two or three loaves at a time and then freeze them.  They always taste fine to me after they defrost.  Only downside is that sometimes the bottom of the bread/crust gets a little hard but that only happens once in a blue moon.  I also buy groccery store bakery bagels and then cut and freeze them.  I usually put three in a bag so they don't go bad before I eat them all.  These too defrost great!

I have never frozen milk and that just seems weird to me.

  • I have two boys so we go through 3 loaves of bread a week easily, but I do freeze it because we have a small kitchen and my rack is always full.

I knew a friend who froze milk but it always tasted nasty so I personally never have.
