Favors: How can I stop guests from taking too many?

I'm new to this board, I'm not sure if this is the right place or if this question has been asked a million times before but here is my scenario:I want to give out 6" pies for my wedding favor.  They will be in small window-boxes.I was planning on giving one pie per couple to share, but I'm afraid that if I leave them out on a table at the end of the night some guests will take more and leave other guests without anything. I had originally thought I might actually label the pies with party's names and table numbers so they can take them at the beginning of the night and therefore not take more than what I had planned for them to have, but I'm worried that given the size of the box and the delicate nature of pastry this might be impractical. Any suggestions??

  • Like that neighbor on Pee Wee's playhouse!

  • I like Moose's idea of smaller individual pies.If I'm a single guest, I get a whole 6 inch pie to myself whereas my married friends have to share theirs.  Sucks to be married in this case. ;-)

  • I don't think you're wrong to think about this.  I could definitely see some people thinking they could take one per person or taking extra.  Some people are just inconsiderate or clueless like that.  I would either use ffmaid's suggestion and put a sign on the table, or put a pretty label one each with people's specific names so they know to only take their own.

  • I like FF's idea. P.S. I'd prob be one of the guests trying to sneak two pies.

  • Make friends with less greedy people.
  • May I ask what flavor pie? Will there be multiple flavors?

  • ffmaid, that's cute!! I like that suggestion, combined with a label that says the person's name. 2 reminders to take only 1 :)

  • How about having them boxed and labeled for people on the way out?  Although, I think some people won't be interested in taking their pie, and it's better for some other people to take them than for them to just sit and go to waste.

  • Put a sign on the table saying "Please keep your fingers out of other people's pie".

  • The problem with the label with people names is that if one person takes a pie that has the wrong label not noticing it could cause issues or if one couple takes 2 pies and 1 takes 0 pie then things are fine but not irf they are labeled. Honestly I would 99% chance leave a pie if oot as i'd be full at that point and most likely leaving the next day thus no time to eat a pie and they can not be transported well and nopt stuck in luggage. So mine woudl be left. Actually even if a local wedding I would leave a whole pie
  • My vote is for individual pies. Like the PP said, it's not really fair to make people share while the person next to them gets the whole pie. Granted it's just freaking pie, it's nothing to fuss over. Also, I don't see how sharing will work unless 1) they are all labeled and 2) if it's adults only. If it isn't adults only, how do you handle pies for people with kids or multiple guests?
