small wedding advice

Hello again! We're having a very small wedding in Lake Tahoe this Sept. We're having a short ceremony, followed by cake-champagne. We also chose the package that includes a professional photographer & videographer. We're not having a best man or maid/matron of honor. So, I have a few questions...Can anyone who's also planning a small wedding doing anything different or special? Like programs or anything like that?? I feel like i'm missing something! Also, this has been bugging me too! Who handles the rings if it's just us up there??

Re: small wedding advice

  • Can you give them to your officiant before the ceremony?

  • I'm doing a 20 person wedding and I'm not doing programs. My FI will just be carrying the rings for the two of us. Any other specific questions?
  • Our guests add up to 17 people - five of whom are kids.  FI's mom is officiating the ceremony.  My sister is standing beside me and FI's brother beside him, but they haven't had any official "duties" as MOH and BM that we asked of them, nor are we making them wear uncomfortable clothes.  I suppose we'll give them the rings, but I don't think it's a big deal.  You could always give them to the officiant or you can put his ring on your thumb and he can carry yours in his pocket.  I did make my own programs, but I didn't go overboard on them.  I only did it because each of our 4 parents will have a reading and I was thinking that people might like to see what the words were.FI's sister will be snapping pics (with a pro camera - she's good).  We'll have our wedding dinner in the inn's restaurant.  I'm making cupcakes to have later.  We'll have some homebrew on hand and a bunch of liquor, but it won't be a traditional dance party.  It'll be kind of like a backyard garden party except we're having it at an inn. My biggest "special project" was the OOT bags that I made for every couple and one for each kid.  I really went overboard - but it was really fun.  I figured these are the 17 most important people in our lives.  We love them and we want them to have a good time.  They'll be traveling more than 3 hours (inn is in VT - we're in NH and MA) and putting up big bucks to stay in this place, so I decided to make the bags really special.
