Need help from the golfers

I'm trying to find an inexpensive set of golf clubs so I can take lessons this summer with my mom. I would just rent a set from the club while I learn, but the problem is I'm left handed and the club doesn't have any. Not only that, but NOBODY has any; I'm going to have to buy a set online I guess. Anyway, just wondering what I should be looking for, and hoping to get an opinion on the couple of sets I've found online in my price range.

Re: Need help from the golfers

• if you are truly starting out, i'd get a cheapy set from Wal-Mart. I learned on a $100 set of Foremosts. you also dont need every club. My Foremosts lasted me 2 years, and all i had was a driver, putter, a 3-wood, sand wedge and 5-7-9 irons. even now, i dont have every club, i carry 10 clubs.
• Guppy!!! You're being paged!

• What Calypso said, although maybe not Wal-mart. We have a place that sells used sports equipment ("Play It Again Sports") and my parents bought me my first set from there for less than $150. I did have all the clubs, but I certainly didn't need them all.

• Seriously, totally paging Guppy!Yeah, I tried Walmart, Target, Kmart, and Play It Again. Kmart had a decent Dunlop set for $100, but no lefties, and they are sold out online. Play It Again had just one set of lefties, and they were $250. I was really hoping to stay closer to the $100-$150 range.
• Play it again sports or craigslist If just starting a used set is a better idea then you when you get good can move up to a nicer set
• id try the craigs list route. also check out www.tgw.com - the Golf Warehouse. i get all my supplies from tehm.
• CRAIGSLIST of course! Thanks ffmaid. Checking now . . .
• the rock bottom set specifically states that they have graphite shafts. those are good - not too heavy.
• Hope you have luck with Craigslist. I think you're in line with the budget of $100-$150 especially for your starter set.I guess I didn't realize Play it again stores were outside of Florida, good to know.

• troll some yardsales too - i always see clubs out at yardsales. H got a bag and like 20 clubs for $10!
• Just found a set for $40 about 45 mins away . . . I sent an email asking what they are made of. Thanks for the tips!
• Thanks, maybe I should practice a little on Wii golf first, ha!
• sarah, whiel your suggestion was meant to be funny/snarky, there are some pros out there that do recommend lefties learn to play rightie. not sure why tho.
• My dad found me a brand new left handed set at a garage sale. Apparently the couple bought it for their daughter and she never played... works for me!
• there are some pros out there that do recommend lefties learn to play rightie. not sure why tho. hmm really? odd. that helps explain the extreme shortage of left handed clubs! :)heels, yes. practice right-handed on wii golf first.
• the lefties learning right handed thing is because golf courses are intended for right handed people. It is in the engineering. Unless you are completely and utterly left sided to the point where your right side is an impediment, I vote rent.

• If you are strongly left handed learn left handed. Your strength in your arms and legs and swing will be longer with your dominate sideAlso it is who you are
• maybe! but lefties tend to get the shaft (no pun intended) on many, many things.
• I taught FI to play last year and bought him a set from Sports Authority for $120 and I think they are quite nice. I've also picked up the occasional club from Goodwill :)
• This is true. I changed schools in the 7th grade, and then got moved homerooms a week into school. As if it wasn't bad enough already, the new homeroom teacher insisted that I take the only left handed desk in the classroom even though it was broken. I told her I was used to having right handed desks and it was fine, but she insisted. My books were constantly falling and making tons of noise because my desk was broken in the bottom where your books go. Not cool. On the plus side, though, no one could borrow my scissors in kindergarten.
• FI got me a set at Walmart to learn on and after a few years I bought a nicer set, but I go back to my Walmart set from time to time because they are lighter.
• Maybe rent a righty set for a day and see how bad/awkward it is for you?I'm a righty but my left side is stronger, so while I write and throw stuff with my right hand, I bat with my left and when I ran/rode horses my left arm/leg was significantly stronger. Not sure if they are good but...http://www.overstock.com/Sports-Toys/Delta-Ladies-Left-Handed-Pro-Hybrid-Golf-Club-Set/2226908/product.html
• As most have said, garage sales, but you can also pick up clubs at pawn shops and Goodwill. Academy Sports also has decent sets that are both left and right handed. I've been playing for 14 years, and frankly the only ones I really use are my driver, 3 wood, 3-5-and 7 irons, putter and pitching wedge. Maybe someday I'll use the rest, lol.
