What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

  • our friend had to go to Atlanta for the weekend.  She brought home about 20 of them.  I just need to go over to the condo to get them. We are weird about stuff like that down here.

  • That's so funny. My mom used to cart stuff down to my sister when she would visit her in St. John. I seem to remember her taking a sh!tload of Taco Bell down there for her and her friends. And maybe several containers of home-cooked food as well since groceries are so effing expensive.

  • And I thought I was weird for getting my MIL to bring me Cuban food from Miami.  But I'm having a solo boycott of chick-fil-a.
  • Oh how I miss Chick-fil-a!

  • My IL's family and friends always bring pretzels, Tastykakes (however it's spelled) and other somewhat non-perishables down from Philly when they visit Florida. I sit there and think "Seriously?" when they are unzipping one of their suitcases and it's filled with nothing but Tastykakes and rolls.I never understood how you could b!tch and complain so much about not having certain types of food available but just thinking about not living near a Chick-fil-a.......I get it now.
  • Funny, both the girl who brought down the Chick-fil-a and I are from the Philly area.  In November we are going up for a football game and all we talk about are Cheesesteaks, Tasktycakes and pretzels. When someone from Philly come down to see us they always have goodies from Philly for us.

  • I used to be like this with Long Island bagels...but Chick-fil-a?? really? We have them all over the Raleigh area and I think I've only eaten there like twice. Don't tempt me to try it again! ;)

  • Don't get me wrong, I love me some cheesesteak. But alll my IL's do is complain about anything they put in their mouths because "the food in Florida sucks", "no-one knows how to cook here", "up north is the only place to get decent food". And they're really loud about it too at restaurants. It's funny/annoying.
  • I'm not that bad.. I just miss something once in a while, but it's not like I have it stock piled or anything.I do have to say bread is totally different outside of the Philly area.  I do not know why, but hoagie rolls are just different.  I find myself complaining and longing for good bread.

  • Hahaha Bread is probably their number 1 thing to complain about! I'm really into baking so I think I'm gonna try to make some bread the way they like it. I'm sure I'll figure out the difference along the way. There are a couple of cheesesteak places around here. FI and I always go them them on the pretext of judging them and finding out if they are any good. I can't really tell the difference too much, all I know is I like cheesesteak so I fully support my FI's need to judge and rate cheesesteak places. They always have little copies of "You might be from Philly if...." glued onto all the napkin holders on the tables. One of them mentions Amoroso rolls.I found a cheesesteak place on my own and I brought one home for FI to rate. They also had ketchup chips and birch beer which I had remembered him and his family mentioning (from one of their b!tchfests) so I grabbed those too. I guess the place passed the test because he almost had an orgasm while he was eating. "Ohh....Mmmmm....Hell yeah.....I feel like I'm at home!"
  • Love amorosa rolls are the best.

  • oh Chick Fil A is the best... We dont have one within like 40 miles so i always get it on road trips!
  • Mmmmm, I'm so jealous!  We used to always have that when we lived in Virginia Beach.  They need one in Michigan...  At least take a picture for us!
