I just got a facebook request from my caterer. It doesn't look like she's using the account for professional purposes, it's clearly a personal account. I don't know why, but it creeps me out a little bit that a  vendor would search for me on facebook. I mean, really, I hired you for my wedding 2 months ago, why would you be interested in daily updates on my life? Just doesn't seem normal to me, or is it?

Some people are obsessive about building up their "friend count". It's not really creepy, just stupid. I hate it because you end up getting updates on people you don't care at all about. I usually don't accept those requests. Or accept and then delete a couple weeks later.

I think you are overreacting.  I don't have FB now but friends do, especially for networking because they are business owners or just need to for professional reasons.  If you liked her service, add her.  It could be useful if someone one day says, hey, your cake was great, can I have your baker's info?  It is part of modern networking and while I am more likely to use Linked In because I'm in finance, most people have started using FB for networking.

Some people just like to add every person they know.  With these people I generally decline or become friends and then delete them later.

Yeah, I'm going to ignore it.This is just an annoyance of mine with FB, people who want to add as many people as possible for god knows what reason. If she requested me on Linkedin, then sure, that's what it's for. I have no desire to network on FB. I am also obviously cranky today.

lpstl, this is why my account is set to private so that randars can't add me. Which is a good thing now that MIL is on FB. ::shudders:: Some of my pics are NSFMIL.

I can't stand when people add FB friends just for the friend count. I ignore them. lpstl, how's your BIL? Forgive me if I've missed an update. Just point me in the direction!

You know you can limit who sees what info, right? I have my coworkers on a limited profile view. They can't see my status updates & stuff. You can be very picky w/who sees what info these days. And if you do a search for me, my picture does not come up but you can message me or add me to friends. But I have to accept.

I am so sick of facebook. It was kind-of neat a while ago, I guess, and it's nice for staying in touch with old friends and family and for sharing pictures. But there are way more things that annoy me about it than things that I like. Like the random friend requests from people I hardly (or don't) know, just trying to build up to 5,000,000 friends or something ridiculous. Or the stupid viral games that go around like "label all of these cartoons with your friends names!" or "Answer these 500 random questions about yourself!" Or the need to update your status 250 times a day... It's very narcissistic.Ignore me. I'm cranky today.

You can also limit who sees specific details.  I logged in the other day for something and to make sure it is deactivated and saw features that you can hide friends too.  I also think many of you lack networking skills.

I'm friends with my photographer, but she uses it for business purposes.  Fun fact: my photographer is FB friends with me, all three of my bridesmaids, and 1 groomsman, but not my husband.

My officiant requested me. It was ok with me though. I loved her. And that's how I found out that her partner was also her wife! I thought they were together but wasn't sure.
