baskets for out-of-town guests

I'm trying to think of some cute ideas for things to include in a basket for out-of-town guests that will be placed in their rooms or at the hotel when they check in. I am thinking of including: a map of the town, a list of recommendations of some favorite restaurants and places from me and my fiance, a bottle of water, some local-made snacks, little packs of advil...Anyone have any cute suggestions for items to stock in the goodie baskets? Not sure what to put it all in. Little baskets? Gift bags? Also, does the hotel staff actually go and place them in their rooms in advance, or do they give them to the guests when they check in? Thanks!

  • I think what you've listed is plenty. Excedrin with caffeine is my go-to hangover medicine.  If it's good enough for me, it's good enough for my guests, so that's what I'm including. My hotel is placing them in the rooms, but charging me something like $2 each.  Lame, but whatever.
  • Check with your hotel. Ours gives it to them at the front desk when they check in. I'm doing these too, I hope to have pics up soon!

  • What you have is enough, and I'd use gift bags so they can throw them away and it's cheaper. You'll have to ask the hotel what their policy is on that.
  • What you have listed sounds great.  I would go with the inexpensive gift bags instead of baskets.  This can be a budget buster so spend wisely and don't spend too much.  Oot bags aren't a requirement, just something nice, so if you don't end up having the money for it, just do a little brochure with things to do in the area and leave it at that. You should be able to leave them with the hotel front desk staff and they will give them to the guests as they check in.

  • If your guests are flying in, then bags are better.  Our nephew had baskets for OOT guests.  Except that none of us could fit it into our luggage to take back home.So they spent a ridiculous amount of $$ on baskets that were all left in hotel rooms.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • I'm late to this, but we used the cloth shopping bags from cheaptotes.com.  We were at a La Quinta and they kept them at the front desk and gave them to people when they arrived.  They had a note in the computer for our hotel block, so they knew to look.  I was a dork and labeled each with a name, but you could do it unlabeled too.
