Booking a venue

Hello!  I hopefully will be getting married in April (we're still not 100% sure on the date)  Just wondering how far in advance most of you had booked your reception/ceremony venues?  I thought we wouldn't run into much trouble getting married in the "off season"  but a few places that we really like are already booked.

Re: Booking a venue

  • Our wedding is in May 2010.  We booked our reception venue in January 2009 and got the last Saturday in May available there.  We booked our ceremony location in May 2009.Depending on the area, it's really common for places to book up over a year in advance.

  • I booked a year in advance. My cousin booked 3 months in advance in the busy month of July. Just make sure that your guest list in completely final before you get a venue.
  • I like your dog. Whats the breed?
  • Once you find a ceremony location and reception location you are set on- I say book it. They determine so much about the wedding, and so many plans revolve around what day you can get the places you like. Our church was booked almost 2 years out (and I am in the Midwest) so we booked that and our reception site (we knew the one we wanted right away) about 18 months out. If you have one you are set on- call tomorrow and get your date ASAP! :)
  • To nda:  Thanks! She is a schnauzer mix, we got her from a shelter so we're not really sure exactly what she is... most likely schnauzer/ terrier mix------We were supposed to go look at a few places this weekend but now I have to work the weekend so I'm starting to get a little anxious about finding a place!
  • We booked about 11 months in advance for my August wedding. All of the popular venues were already booked by then though; we happened to find one that was less well-known.

  • If you're comfortable making the decision you should try booking now for April. As long as you are flexible with your date you probably won't have a problem even if you wait longer. We just booked for June and our venue still had a lot of May open, it just depends. We weren't looking at Saturdays though, I bet most of those were already booked.

Our original one - A year, but we ended up pushing our date up so it was more like 7 months. Our final venue - 5 weeks!

  • We booked in December for the following October.  GL!
  • Thanks for the replies, my FI is already a little hesitant about being able to get everything done in 9 months so having some venues already booked isn't really helping my case
  • You can definitely get it all done in 9 months! It seems like you realize that, now you just need to help your FI along. The only reason people "plan" for so long is because venues and vendors book up so far in advance. As long as you start seriously looking and booking there's no reason you can't get married in April.
