We went ring shopping today

This might get me flamed because I'm technically NEY (gasp! - we've been together for 3 years, living together for 1... so hopefully that makes it better). I want to share though. We went to look at rings today, and it was a lot of fun! We expected the salespeople to be really pushy but were pleasantly surprised. I had been thinking I wanted something like this, and found a very similar setting that I liked a lot.So, he'll purchase one when he thinks the time is right. It's becoming real!

Re: We went ring shopping today

• Why are you technically NEY? Did he ask you to marry him? If so, you are engaged.

• I think they're planning on getting married, but he hasn't asked her yet.
• Yeah navy, it's just a gray area. We're engaged in that we're planning to get married next year. He has not said "will you marry me?" and I have no ring

• Ahh okay, well at least he went shopping with you and you are not a sad sack just looking at rings by yourself w/o any hint of him asking.

Beautiful! Mine is similar to that, but without the criss-cross around the diamond (I like that part!)

Mine looks more like the one Anna posted. I like a clean solitaire. :)

• me too GG.  That's pretty much a pic of mine except I have a bit more of a smooth line in the cathedraling to the stone
• The one that you posted is really pretty! But I'm biased, mine has the criss-cross ;)It's pretty though! And maybe it will happen soon!

• Oooh ring shopping is so much fun! I was so glad fi and I went together, because while shopping I discovered that diamonds really don't look that great on my hand. I showed fi a ring that I really liked, but it was a cheapie so he had a similar one custom made with a thicker band, more side stones, etc. We were in that gray area for awhile as well. Knew we wanted to get married and sometime soon, but not officially engaged. It's exciting!
• Your ring is beautiful, Laura! Very blingy :D

• The one with the criss-cross is called Trellis, the one anna posted is called Cathedral... the one I liked is neither. It actually kind of annoyed me because I asked what it was called and he was like "oh, it's just one of our designs." Do all rings have names or is that possible? It seemed like he didn't want me taking the name to another company and getting the same thing.

• Where did you go to look at rings? My ring doesn't have a name, haha.

• That ring is pretty.Names for rings and names for wedding gowns confuses the shiit out of me.I've never seen a ring or a gown named anything!
• It was a local place called DeVon's. I think it's local anyway. Maybe he wasn't being shady then ;)

• Thanks, apple! The center-stone is actually lab-created; I specifically requested an inexpensive ring because, well, I suck sometimes. The ring is all dinged up right now because I dropped it... off of our third story balcony onto the pavement below. Yeah, I play with it a lot and it gets dropped every now and then. I dropped it in the bathroom one day and knocked the setting loose, but the fall from the balcony has tightened it right back up again. :D Poor fi, he didn't believe me when I picked out the cheapie ring, but it was really pretty and I just didn't want to worry about it because I knew I was going to damage it at some point. Plus, I was way more excited about getting engaged to him then I was about the ring. OK I'll stop rambling about my ring now... :)
• OMG that's priceless that you dropped it off the balcony!I have visions of him proposing and me going "Woo Hoo!!" flinging my arms and hitting it into the ocean/storm drain/highway

• Haha that literally made me laugh out loud. I'm sure you'll be fine!
• Ring shopping is definitely fun! FI and I did that once after we went out for dinner- like it was part of a date or something:) The lights in the jewelry stores make the diamonds look insane!
• Congrats, apple, I had no idea you guys weren't officially engaged or whatever you want to call it.  That's a gorgeous ring!  I wish you luck and hope you get your sparkly soon.  :)
