Re: Baby name

  • Please tell me it's not b/c of Twilight?
    image
  • I also meant to say she's taking her Twilight obsession too far!

  • Cullen?  Eh, that's not so bad.  Though I assume she got the name from the Twilight series?  Tehehe, all the little Edwards and Bellas are going to be so embarrassed when they grow up!

  • And her husband's going along with this? Women - grown women - who are obsessed with Twilight creep me out. Liking it is one thing, but the grown women who openly proclaim "I'm in love with Edward Cullen"... that I just don't get.

  • Yeah, I have no problem with Cullen, it's a fine name, but it's only because she loves Twilight so much. It's not like a cool family name or something.

  • Thats pretty bad, but my friends husband and her have decided if there baby is a girl her name is going to be halo. like the xbox game... i just laughed and said go for it.
  • I really liked the name Cullen before I knew anything about twlight. But now, I would never name my child Cullen, Isabella or any of those...

Brooke - I agree. It creeps me out too.

  • Ha, Roxy, I'm the same way! I have loved Bella for a long time, Isabella actually, and now I will just let that name go! I'd hate for everyone to think I named her after Twilight! Her husband is not thrilled with the name, but their compromise is it being the middle name, not the first. He maintains he will never call him Cullen, the baby will always be John to him! lol

nda - I really love the name Bella, but I have a fear that there will be lots of Bellas in my kids' classes, so I'll have to pass on that one.

  • I like Twilight, i actually like the name Cullen, but i would not name my child Cullen after Twilight. Maybe an animal, but not a human baby.

Whit - I think your friends need to be on the same page and call their kid by the same name. That'd be confusing, to others and to the kid!
    image
  • Oh, because THAT won't be confusing. I'm also not a fan of naming a kid something you don't intend to call it. It's just a lifetime of correcting people and explanations. Chances are, when the kid finds out he was named after a controlling teenage vampire, he'll want to be John anyway. Hmmm, here's a post full of stuff I don't like. We

  • I always wondered if the name Cullen was chosen for the Twilight series as a play on words.  Since vampires "cull" the weaker humans.  It sounds too morbid to me to be a child's name.
  • My 1 year old sister is named Isabella... but not b/c of Twilight. Geez.
  • Lol, I know, right? Poor kid. It's just his dad really doesn't want to call him cullen, and mom is really set on calling him that! I mean, I'm a Twilight fan and all, I'm just not going to go that far with naming my child after it!
    image
  • Haha scoetto! Well, her nickname is Izzy, right?
    image
  • Yeah, we call her Izzy. And Isaboo.
  • Well, I've never liked the name Isabella (partly because I already know of several) but it sucks that names that people truly like get ruined because of peoples obsessions with the books/ movies
  • I did not know that  about the possible meaning of Cullen - that is morbid. It makes me think of what I would have named a kid if I'd chosen a name back when I like the the New Kids On The Block. I'd have a baby named Jonathan Joey McIntyre. My cousin's daughter got a kitten. My cousin told her to name it after something she likes. Thus, kitty's name is Santa Claus Dinosaur. It's no different to me than naming your kid after a fiction book character.

  • Hahahaha, I can't even say it with a straight face. My cousin's kid is a riot, but that was the best thing she's ever come up with.

  • HAH, FI got a huge kick out of Santa Claus Dinosaur.
  • Haha! So did mine! Santa Claus Dinosaur. That's badass. I think my next kitty needs to be named by your cousins daughter.
  • I actually loved the name Edward until Twilight. Now (especially since we'll be trying for babies soon) there is no way I would choose that name. DH is pleased, he never liked Edward to begin with.
  • Brooke! J is now calling one of our cats Santa Claus Dinosaur, and just named the other one Sex Roast Beef.
  • Maybe it's just me... Is "Cullen" not a surname? I know Cullum and Callum are first names, but I've never heard "Cullen" used as anything but a surname before. Andplusalso, I don't see the problem in naming your kid after something that is meaningful to you, whether it be some form of popular entertainment, classic culture, any religion or whatnot. If it's special to you, what's the issue?

  • Yea, pretty sure Cullen is a surname but I really like last names as first names (depending of course)
