tux question

My dress is ivory & champagne, and my FI is planning on renting a tux.  Should he and the groomsmen wear ivory shirts, or white? Btw, if it makes a difference, he still hasn't decided on what color tie/vest he wants; we don't have any set color scheme (anything fall goes), though we've been leaning toward chocolate, light blue & deep red.I'm terrible at visualizing how the colors might look when we're standing together, so I thought I'd ask your opinion. I just remember a post a while back asking if the bride's ivory dress might look dirty next to the groom's white shirt...but I can't remember the replies.  :)

Re: tux question

  • Chocolate, light blue, and deep red? I'm having a really hard time picturing those colors togethers. I'd stick with white, but it doesn't really matter. I just think white shirts look more classic. We're doing brown tuxes, white shirts, and champagne ties/vests.

  • Get white.  An ivory tux shirt still will not be the same shade as your dress, and it may make his shirt look dingy if you go with ivory.
  • My dress is champagne.  FI picked out a black tux with ivory shirt with brown vest and tie.  Looks surprisingly sharp.  GL!
  • Go to the tux shop and get them to help you pick something that looks good with your dress, They do this for a living, and can give you some good suggestions, and actually pair different vests, shirts, and ties with the tuxes, laid out for you, or on a hanger, so you can see how they will look together. Take a picture of your dress, or a swatch that is the same color. I like a black tux with ivory shirt, and champagne vest and tie. But it kind of depends on how it looks next to your dress, and your FI's coloring. You can always use a deep red boutionierre to get a touch of the red in there.

my dress is champagne. so my color scheme is champagne, apple red and black, the groom and his men are wearing black tux with black shirts and apple red vests and ties. my bridesmaid are wearing apple red dresses. champagne is the accent color. i am getting married in december.
  • I would go with white. My dress was ivory and H wore a white shirt and it looked fine. He tried ivory shirts but they looked dirty.
